When I first wandered the 13eme, I wasn't very impressed; I saw only a smattering of Asian traiteurs and grocery stores. When I reached Tang Frères (literally, when I turned the corner), my eyes almost fell out of my head. I've NEVER seen such an enormous Asian supermarket. The way that it's arranged is not very intuitive to me (even though I feel like I have a lot of experience wandering around Asian supermarkets); I can't ever seem to find the spices / sauces that I want. There also aren't very many workers walking around, so it's extremely difficult to find help. However, that allows you to wander around and explore all the awesome things that they sell. :D Chives are surprisingly expensive. (I just had to say that :x It's really weird for me). There's a huge variety; I can't overemphasize this. I think you can pretty much find any Vietnamese / Chinese thing you'd need for any sort of cooking. Prices are decent for Paris. Today, I bought a lychee drink, a mangosteen drink, two sets of wonton wrappers, 500g of ground pork, chives, five-spice powder, coconut milk, and tiny tapioca pearls for only 11.20€. Amazing. ALSO! They ground their pork fresh :O It's so cool. I've never seen that. You do need to get a ticket in order to get served by the Boucherie, though. I totally didn't expect this at all and I stood around like an idiot, wondering how people knew it was their turn to get served. I guess it's a new system. It's a little out of the way, but it's totally worth a trip. :)

I came here on my last day in Paris so that I could get some cheese to bring back home with me. I…read morewas a bit nervous selecting which cheese to get since A) I'm not too familiar with very refined cheeses, and B) I have a good French accent but do not speak it well so people just stare at me. Thankfully, I was able to convey that I had a flight later that day, and the very nice cheese monger was able to vacuum seal my cheese for the flight. The only problem now was going to be TSA. I got some Tomme Crayeuse and Maroilles, both excellent milk cheeses that my parents liked a lot. They have a wide variety of other cheeses as well from all over the country. Too bad I was in Paris for only such a short time that I couldn't try out any other ones.

There are a plentiful amount of tables, but only one or maybe two waiters, but don't worry, they get to you quickly to take your order and O was impressed at how quickly the food arrived after ordering. The four in our group all loved our food, which ranged from the herring in oil, kids burgers, chicken with cream sauce, salad or a side of green beans. They were all great. We were excited to recognize locals eating here. It was a great lunch and I topped it off with an espresso to help me adjust from the time difference for my trip and couldn't recommend this place any more.

Took a quick walk through this market street after checking out Les Catacombes and walked into here…read moreon a whim. A super friendly, adorable, sweet (English-speaking!) dude works here! He really filled us up on delicious samples and was super knowledgeable. He gave us so many tips and knowledge about foie gras, without being pushy at all. After learning we are American tourists, he gave us some tips on what was suitable to bring back. I haven't had that much foie gras or pate, but here, I tried some awesome duck/goose liver--for free! We bought a few cans and brought them home. It even came with a cute duck woven out of straw! A few months later, they tasted awesome on baguette slices and with beer.
