I've had some very pleasant experiences here over the years, I appreciate that there's a nice caviste right in the port area of Cassis, this seems to be the only one. (Though you can get some pinard at the supermarkets, naturally.) As a local caviste they have several bottles from the region, especially Cassis itself, Bandol, and Provence, but they also have references from other wine regions of France, not an enormous selection, but nicely curated. And there's an inspired selection of spirits, too. I once bought a Marc de Provence there from one of my favorite producers.
Besides being a caviste it's a Bar à Vin too, and you can have some good apéritifs, champagnes, or wines in the cozy bar space. There are a few seats where you can also sidle up to the bar and have a drink and some tapas, especially charcuterie, Spanish ham Iberico de Bellota, chorizo. La Maison de Jo et Gaby also sells jams, tapenades, and artichoke dips that you can take home.
The port of Cassis is absolutely lovely, but this place, hidden on a small street nearby, offers more interesting choices for the wine lover, and in a calmer atmosphere. read more
