I found out about Donninis by accident…read more I was walking down the road and sipping on a takeaway coffee and managed to spill it down my front. Embarrassed I stumbled into the next store and asked for a wet tissue. As I was mopping off the coffee I took in my surroundings and discovered a beautiful pasta store. Cabinets filled with delicate artisan pasta of all different colours and sizes are laid out in front of you. Tubs of sauces from creamy carbonara and mushroom to Italian based classics like Napolitano and Bolognese. I felt obliged to buy something because the little lady behind the counter had been so helpful. I ended up spending about $25 there and left with two serves of handmade angel hair pasta, a tub of Napolitano sauce and a chunk of parmigiano cheese. When I got home I followed her instructions and only cooked the pasta for a minute in boiling water, then I gently heated the sauce and tossed through the soft pasta. I added the cheese and had a try. It was delicious. The sauce didn't overwhelm the pasta and the cheese added a delicious rich flavour. Needless to say, I'll be going back soon.

The best sauce is the smoked salmon, capers, lemon infused olive oil and dash of cream. So so so good. Light but still full of flavour! The black truffle and salami is also yummy. Their garlic bread is also fantastic. It is $7 for a ciabatta filled with homemade garlic butter. It is crunchy on the outside and melty on the inside. Possibly my fave garlic bread ever. Nobody acknowledged my presence. I had to ask if I can sit. Was told I can sit anywhere but order at the counter. Separate wine counter that said tastings till 4pm (its only 3) but it looked shut down. Despite looking at the menu and display for 15 minutes, nobody seemed to care. From what I gather on my own, they offer a small to moderate amount of wines from the area. Those available to taste are written on the daily board. Despite selling reds and blends, none of these were offered to sample before purchase. Not really a meal place. Menu consisted of a $32 cheese platter of 4 small wedges (2-3 bites) of cheese and a small container of chutney. If you wanted meats or crackers to eat these on, theze are purchased separatly. Small shop items available to browse, mostly sauces and marmalades. Nobody seemed to care I was there or that I left. Was not worth the drive for what they offer, nor the service they don't offer.
