But, we were in Provence, we like to eat specialities of the local region wherever we go, and bouilliabasse is a specialty of the region. Our hosts highly recommended La Bouillabaisse. You have to order the bouilliabaisse 24 hours in advance, which we didn't know until we got there. And, the restaurant was fully booked for that evening. We also didn't realize that reservations were a must on a weekend evening even in September. We came back for dinner Monday night. By then, we were getting cold feet and wondering if we'd made a mistake in ordering the meal. But, we went through with it and are both glad we did! The broth, not a tomato base as we'd expected, was deliciously seasoned, the fish, a large selection of shellfish and fish, perfectly cooked. Nothing had a "fishiness" smell or taste as all of the ingredients were as fresh as could be and truly delicious! I wouldn't make a general statement that this restaurant is good for children but the staff was helpful and atttentive including to our toddler, who eats a variety of food and enjoyed the bouillabaisse.

Les Clarines has a wonderful selection of cheeses that I have never heard of and definitely cannot pronounce. Unfortunately, they do not speak English here. Fortunately, hand gestures are universal. I point to the cheese. She points to the cheese. I point to my mouth, then my tummy, then my butt and give a thumbs up. She didn't think that was too funny. I opted for the brie with nuts. Why? Have you ever seen brie with nuts here in the US? That's right, it is known as the male brie. All the brie imported into the states is female (I just made this up. Don't go to France asking for male brie, they will laugh at you with a French accent.) A great buttery flavor with a mellow saltiness that is the perfect accompaniment to fresh French bread. I could tell this place was good b/c of all the French people walking in. On weekends there is a farmer's market so it gets pretty crowded. Now the bigger question - are we supposed to eat the rind on the brie?
