A few years ago I took a trip to Thailand and visited the Big Buddha in Phuket. We didn't plan our trip, it just happened by chance that day. Some may call it bad luck, I felt like the luckiest girl in the world having to walk down the mountain, due to poor planning. The views were not extraordinary obstructed by the fog. It was beautiful nonetheless to me. We came across a small restaurant on the side of the mountain. At the time, I thought it was the best day ever, as I watched him read the McDonald's book while I fed the monkeys.
I can now reminisce about a much better experience! At first it felt like déjà vu , finding a cute restaurant on the side of a mountain. This one overlooking the jungle we were about to hike into and the outdoor fresh air. It was already more than what I am accustomed to in a campesino area.
Then they started to pour the coffee and hot chocolate. The fresh air and the warmth, it took me to a very happy and relaxing place. Soccer terms they hit a GOOOOOOOOOOL and the whole world cheers!
The service was slow, worth the wait. Our waitress she wasn't the brightest. She forgot she took our order and she kept coming to the table to confirm our order. Very indigenous in my opinion but she was doing great in speaking Spanish.
"Los deseos no deben contarse a nadie." It's a saying, like when you blow out your candles, you shouldn't say what you wish for out loud. I break all those rules, but I am going to make myself sick craving their food so badly. I wish, I wish, I wish, to go back, the rest of the trip I tried to find something to satisfy me to that degree. I fear never finding it again.
I should have ordered the cecina and migas. What is cecina? Spain has a version, salted and dried cured meat. Mexico also adds lime and the taste is out of this world. We had a difficult time finding another restaurant that had cecina (we tried). My dish was great too, but I can't remember what I ate (except the moments I look at my pictures), I will forever remember what I missed out on. I wanted the dish right next to me after I was given a bite. I should have just pushed mine away and ordered that deliciousness.
"Tripa vacia, Corazon sin alegria." Translates to empty stomach, sad heart.
