What a yum place! We stumbled upon it a week ago, and I loved it so much I got take out last night. I'm a sucker for a good steak super burrito, and theirs rocks. I ask for green sauce instead of red for my wet burritos and even their green sauce is the bomb! All their ingredients are fresh and delicious- their salsa is amazing and be sure to try the cole slaw. We ate outside on their patio the day we discovered it and had a relaxing afternoon. Visiting San Carlos I found this charming little Mexican restaurant. Got a chicken burrito and chips and salsa to go. Burrito was awesome! We loved the food so much on our last visit, we had to go back again. The meal started with warm tortilla chips and a delicious salsa, followed by a cup of delicious albondigas soup. Then Mario prepared fried jalapeño peppers stuffed with cheese and chorizo, loved them! Hubby ordered chicken enchiladas covered with a smooth, velvety mole sauce. He asked Mario to prepare something special, and out came a platter of grilled shrimp (camarones) covered with lemony fried garlic on a bed of lettuce. He brought out a great hot sauce with it. The shrimp was a hit for both of us! The photo of the shrimp has a few missing because we had started eating them before remembering to take a photo. I once again ordered a chili relleno with lovely melted, oozing, cheese and a beef enchilada suiza with a green sauce. My husband wants to try everything on the menu, I'm going to order the camarones with my chili relleno next time. So I haven't written a review about a restaurant in quite a while, but after enjoying the meal I had at La Hacienda, I had to come and write a review so that others might enjoy this hidden gem. When we got there, it was empty... and first impressions are divey charming with their vintage neon sign, because this place is OLD SCHOOL. Call it nostalgia, but this reminded me of the Mexican food spots of yesteryear. The salsa and chips are amazing (and free) and the serving sizes are quite large. I have had the taquitos and tacos, which are fried to perfection with tender meat, served with flavorful refried beans and a rice. Plates of comfort food await you here- my kids arrived doubtful but left happy and full, as the kid's meals were also well portioned for older kiddos like mine with big appetites. No hard liquor license, but don't sleep on the sangria which was great! Can't wait to go back! read more

A lot of people have their favorite go to restaurants in San Carlos, mine is this place. The servants is consistently positive, warm, and friendly, and this is been a family restaurant for a while. If I'm in this area I usually go in for their lunch special or their dinner plate. My go-to is there combination special which has a chicken enchilada, a beef taco, and chili relleno. The enchilada has a really nice sauce, and the Chile rellano has right amount of spice and cheese without a whole lot of egg batter. I like the beans here, the rice is really flavorful, the taco is always Fresh & crispy, and they're homemade chips and mild salsa has a good chunky consistency. Their guacamole isn't all that great, but the rest of their food is--so if you're looking for a good place for Mexican food, I would definitely recommend this place over the others in San Carlos. read more

Yesterday, Cinco de Mayo 2024 was the first time we were here after it being suggested by another business on Laurel Street, Laurel Street Arts, and what an excellent suggestion it was! Everything from the salsa & chips to the surprise complimentary flan complete with a birthday candle was top notch! The service was outstanding as was our food. I chose the chili rellanos combo plate which were the BEST I've had! I couldn't eat the 2nd one and brought it home. My sister and the birthday girl both choose #3, the tacos and did the 1/2&1/2 .. which I would have thought to take pics! Their plates were absolutely clean!!! All of us loved the coleslaw, so yummy! I also ordered a super burrito to bring home for my husband & it didn't disappoint either! Very reminiscent of the old La Azteca in RWC that sadly closed years ago. The vibe is chill hole-in-the-wall authentic Mexican place which is honestly a relief from all of the overdone Laurel Street places. They make all their sauces in house and even have plenty of choices for vegetarians and gluten free. The food is the perfect blend of fresh, doesn't leave me feeling overstuffed or bloated. Just had dinner here the other night and wow - so good!! I had the vegetarian burrito which was amazing. My kids had the tostado and a quesadilla - full marks on both. Husband and mom had the chimichangas and enchiladas and both cleaned their plates. We also had to get the guacamole which my 6 year old devoured like she'd never eaten anything before in her life. I have been coming here for over 10 years. Last night was the first time I have eaten here since the new owners took over. I was pleasantly surprised the menu was the same. The food was really good, the servers were extremely friendly, and did I mention the coffee? Apparently the new owner used to manage the coffee shop in Redwood City called Back Yard Coffee.
