Pretty nice historic area with information. Nice place to walk around. Really interesting.

THE TUNNELS ARE CLOSED. YOU CANNOT GO INSIDE THE PYRAMID/TEMPLE AT ALL. If you are okay with that, you will pay $95 per person (it is more expensive than listed online) to only see a small amount of the top of it (the rest is underground). IF it is a sunny day, you can climb one small part of the temple steps, but that's the coolest thing you'll experience here. If it's raining, that will be closed so there will be almost nothing to see. UNTIL THEY OPEN THE TUNNELS AGAIN, IF THEY EVER DO, I DO NOT RECOMMEND COMING HERE. read more

The way this massive, hill-encrusted pyramid with the ostentatious Catholic church atop it dominates the Cholula skyline is quite impressive. Enjoyed the steep climb to the summit, where views of Puebla stretched far and wide. Go early to avoid the heat and crowds. Sad as always to see that the church stole pieces of the pyramid and otherwise demolished some of the original structure in order to create their own building. Visited this summer with a large group and we didn't feel like paying to go into the museum (much of the grounds can be seen for free from above anyway). Looked like not much excavation work has been done, which is not necessarily a bad thing since that hopefully means there will be many historical treasures to discover and appreciate when our society is better prepared to do so. Instead, the kids in our group enjoyed the many playgrounds down below, got candy and other souvenirs at the nearby market and watched the Voladores show in the Zocalo. read more

The museum helped with the back story of the pyramid. Some neat stuff in there. The tunnels were closed. The English tour guide was difficult to understand. The real altars where children were sacrificed was a somber part of the experience. It's called the largest pyramid in the world but it really doesn't feel like it. There are pyramid parts down low and then a giant hill of dirt on top of it with a church so it's impossible to know exactly what the pyramid used to look like. I think it's more accurate to say it was or could have been the largest pyramid in the world. read more

Just to clarify the low rating is for the poor poor service we had. The walk through the tunnels, museum and overall pyramid were quite interesting. Now on to the bad service. When our tour group arrived some of us needed to use the bathroom. The bathroom staff said that we needed to buy tickets first... a bit annoying but makes sense I guess. So we went to purchase tickets, some for people who didn't really wanna do the tour, they just wanted to use the bathroom, but it is what it is. When we finally got our tickets, we entered the bathroom and to our surprise, no soap! Okay, we'll just ask the staff to provide us with some soap, right? Nope. They aggressively said that there was no soap, no refills, no anything and that if we had any problem with that to take it to the admissions booth. So we there we went. At the admissions booth, they said that there was nothing they could do about it, that they had been waiting for their shipment of soap from long time ago and that no, we wouldn't be compensated for this 'minor' discomfort. This is the bathroom you have to pay for! The fact that there was no soap was bad, but the attitude and poor service was even worse. read more

I liked the tour of this ancient pyramid. We hired a tour guide. He gave us a good lecture, Spanish only, but I could understand most of it. The pyramid was mentioned by von Humbold in his early 19th century description of Latin America. The tunnels, built by an archeologist to explore the buried pyramids, are a must. Don't go if you have claustrophobia! read more
