Magical Calvillo...After sourcing our artisanal cheese from a local cheese dairy we found a shady spot to park the double cab truck on the narrow cobblestone streets. Walking along I paused at this storefront, from the sidewalk I tried to make out what I thought I saw at the end of the long hallway. I told my family here, lunch, I have to hop on a Zoom call.
My uncle said I had a good eye, great restaurant. We selected a table that was enclosed in its own private little garden. Paused to order a drink, a Chelada for the warm November day. Asked my family to find me something vegetarian from the menu and Zoomed into a brief work meeting.
It had been remodeled we were told. Some smooth precious stone lined the floors and walls. They had ordered me a vegetarian plate. Requested nopales and avocado to be included. Pretty sure the cactus was freshly cut...little quesadillas sat atop a bed of salad and a side of rice.
The white rice with Julien carrots, thin sliced chile, made with butter, a cup of milk- like the one served by my Great Grandmother also born in Calvillo. The taste of home, made with love. read more
