Stopped for dinner while staying in Garden City for a night on way to CO for vacation. The only disappointment is that I wish La Estrella was in *my* hometown. Four of us, including a vegan and a picky eater, loved everything we ate. My husband had the pork tacos (pastor, I think he said) and chorizo tacos, and he raved. They were more of a street-style taco, served with fresh lime to squeeze over. Very fresh! I am a big fan of enchiladas and had the enchiladas rojas. They were more authentic than Tex Mex (everything here is), but a great proportion of sauce to cheese to enchilada. With a bit of the spicy salsa (yowza!) or pico (the pico is ah-MAYYY-zing!), just mmmmmmmMMMMMM. So good! Picky Eater (our 18 yo son) got 3 burritos with just ground beef and cheese inside. He was in heaven. Vegan (our 15 yo dgtr) got the fries and some chips and guac. She was fighting us ALL off her food. That GUACCC!!! Yum, yum, YUM. Just yum. And they serve beer, too! Y'all. This little restaurant is a gem. My husband wants to go back this morning for breakfast. You just have to check it out if you find yourself in Garden City. (PS: I use Yelp all the time, but this is my first-ever review. I am usually WAY too lazy for that!) read more

Food was great! The staff was adorable... Not the cleanest place, but it's a hole in the wall type place. I had the tacos, which were amazing. Give it a try, what could it hurt? read more

Came back to see if the tacos are still amazing and they were Good and juicy. I do recommend calling in your food waited 20 mins for this order, but good. 27 dollars for 5 tacos rice and beans and flaunts plate. read more

I came into this establishment solely because the reviews were great. Upon entering the restaurant I almost left the ambience is not the greatest or what you would expect from a restaurant, but one previous reviewer stated that it was a hole in the wall which is why I didn't leave, the food was great. I had shrimp tacos. I only ordered three. I should've ordered three more. It was so good and so fresh the service was great and pleasant. The woman working was very kind. I would definitely eat there again. read more

Perfect perfect tacos!! This is as authentic as you get! Had the three tacos with pork Astor and carne asada- delicious! I'm a wimp so couldn't handle their salsa. Topped it all of with a ice cold Mexican coke! Perfection! read more

We were driving through Kansas to Colorado and stopped here for a quick bite since the reviews were so good. The place was packed with locals and didn't have enough tables for all the people there. By the time that we all received our food, we got a small table in a corner. The food tastes ok, nothing out of this world like the other reviewers said. My husband didn't like the Hawaiian burger. He said that it was burned. My steak (bistek) was well seasoned but tough, really hard to cut. Everything else was just fine. The cashier was polite and answered all our questions. read more

Took my guys out for lunch, the food was decent for Garden City standards, however immediately after I got back to my hotel I felt sick and had to take the browns to the Super Bowl. Might have been the tripas because two of my workers were on the same boat. I love supporting local small businesses but this one is in need of a revamp and some help. read more

Absolutely amazing food. I am blown away by these enchiladas is not something I thought I'd need to say but here we are. Tried this dish based on another reviewer and I can't wait to come back. read more

We stopped for early lunch on a Saturday, not much of a crowd. Four of us ordered four different plates of five street tacos, and shared amongst ourselves to try a variety of meats. Unfortunately they were out of tongue, and only offered fish tacos as a full dinner plate. But we enjoyed the pork, spicy pork, norteno style, and especiales. There were several other varieties of meats and sausages we did not try. We recommend sampling the spectrum to see why this little place is so highly rated. read more

The best Carne Asada taco's in Garden City for sure, if not in all of Kansas. These street taco's rank right at the top of the many cities that I have visited in Mexico. The order came with 5 street taco's with a generous portion of Carne Asada, garnished with cilantro and sweet onion. They will just melt in your mouth. Each order also comes with chips and red homemade salsa. The exterior of the building doesn't look like much, but don't let that scare you away. They have many options on the menu all made fresh while you wait. This place is a must try when you are in Garden City, Kansas. read more

This place is truly Authentic and ran by a family. Made me smile seeing the little kids running around while mom and dad are working their butts off to serve delicious food. Pricing is reasonable but bring cash as they charge to use a card. Oh yeah, the food looks and tastes delicious read more

Most certainly a hole in the wall location but the food and service are good. The salsa seems at least partly pre-made but it makes up for it on the heat factor. Very spicy. The chorizo meet is decent bud I think there are some better options. The refried beans were pretty bland but the rest of the food was good read more

We came here based upon this restaurant's five star recommendation from 23 reviewers. We don't see very many places with a five star rating like that. Could this place live up to the rating? Yes, it did. This is a down-home family style old school Mexican restaurant. We asked for some custom items and they helped us out perfectly. Guacamole was spicy and the tortilla chips huge. Would definitely come back here. read more

Probably my favorite Mexican restaurant here, I have to go here every time I come to Garden City. The food is prepared quickly and is very authentic. If you don't like spicy things maybe stay away from their hot sauce but if you're into spicier foods throw some hot sauce on there and it's delicious. Definitely try out the carne asada tacos or burritos. read more

La Estrella - My favorite order, 2 carne asada tacos and a burrito. DELICIOUS! - Mexican Near Me - Garden City, Kansas

Best tacos I have had in a while! I was in town for work and was told to check this place out. It is very hole-in-the-wall, but don't be scared! I ordered the carne asada tacos to go and fell in love. Steak was seasoned so well and the salsa verde was awesome. 5 tacos came in an order for under $10. Can't beat it!! Small parking lot out front - I was there on a Thursday evening and did not have a problem parking :) read more

La Estrella needs to be a chain. I first went here 4 years ago while working in Western Kansas and visited it again this week. Insanely good tortas and perfectly cooked meat of all kinds. Whatever marinade or rub they use on the bistec I could drown in and die happy. I wish I was in Kansas more just to try more of their menu. I will send everyone I know here! read more

Stopped here once for tacos while passing through town: carne asada and pollo asada. Tacos were $1.25 each and very decent. The salsa verde was good, if not a little watery. Food came out fast and tasted hot and fresh. Pretty good for a quick lunch. Very hole-in-the-wall, don't be scared. read more

After seeing such a high rating here on Yelp, we had to try it out. I was very pleased! The restaurant was clean, and the staff were helpful and pleasant. I don't know Spanish, so the menu was hard to decipher, but there were pictures so I could see what I wanted. We ordered the chorizo queso, Gringa + 1 asada Taco, and Green Chile Chicken Enchiladas. The presentation was great, and the food tasted wonderful. The only negative thing I could find was that the chips did taste a little stale, but overall, it was a great experience. I will definitely be going back! read more

Came in with a group of 9 around 4:00 and we were the only ones there. Food came fast and service was friendly. The food was awesome. So good. I'm in Mexico monthly for samaritan work and get treated to authentic Mexican cuisine. I was impressed. This is as real as it gets. Mexico City style dishes. Great family. They were surprised to learn they are the highest rated restaurant in Garden City, which makes me love them even more. Just doing their thing, and doing it well. Thanks! read more

The carne asado tacos were really good. the kids had burritos, they said the tortillas tasted different. I had a bite and they were super stale. I figured I'd go tell them because if I owned the restaurant I would want to know. The very nice woman behind the window said: "oh yes, I know people have told us, the truck came and we told them". That was an unexpected response. I guess go for tacos, ask if tortillas are fresh :) read more

Ate here on Wed Sept 23 2020 at noon, one of the dirtiest restaurants I've been in. Extremely poor interior & exterior. We stopped because of the high ratings, must all be family giving the ratings. The girl that served us was very nice but the place is a dump!! read more

BEST TACOS EVER! I'm from KC and we have excellent Mexican food thanks to a high Hispanic population. I would move here just to eat here at least once a week. Hubs and I ordered combo plates that came with 4 tacos, rice and beans. I got 4 carne asada tacos and he got 2 chorizo and 2 marinated pork. WOW. The meats were marinated and cooked to absolute perfection. The tortillas were warm and so tasty! Make sure to use the salsa verde!! Oh and they don't skimp on the meat. Add 2 sodas for a total of $22. read more

Quality authentic Mexican food in Garden City. Very well prepared dishes as can be seen from the online photos. My favorite Mexican place in Kansas.
