La Crêperie du Major has won several awards for best crepes in Lyon, and while I'm not an expert on crepes, theirs are excellent. Not only are these crepes award-winning, but they are huge. Bring a big appetite. I ordered the set of a traditional savory crepe along with a drink and the dessert crepe. The savory crepe, ham and cheese, was so big that I was only able to eat about a quarter of it. Yeah, but you know I had to try the dessert crepe. It was hazelnut and well worth getting. Sadly, after a couple of bites I absolutely couldn't eat anymore. Definitely, go here for great traditional crepes along with their specialty crepes. read more

Wonderful food! The entire menu is Breton galettes, thin buckwheat crepes with various fillings/toppings. So many galette fillings to choose from! The cider is served in tradiitional boules (cups/bowls). Cozy atmosphere, looks like a wine cellar. Quite a small place, perhaps reservations would be wise. Wish we had time to visit more than once during our stay in Lyon. Conveniently located near the art museum. read more

We had such a good meal and time here. We arrived around 8 pm on a Saturday night, before the restaurant got real busy. The owner was very welcoming to us and let us use our poor French, until he had to explain why we might rethink our one of our choices. He was absolutely right, and we greatly appreciated his advice. He also gave us advice about the tradition of drinking cidre with the crepes. The cocktail de mason aperitif was great, and the crepes were excellent --and too big to finish. This was a shame, as we wanted to try a sweet crepe for dessert. We will return to do just that. The restaurant is very attractive and in a quiet part of the presqu'ile. (la version français en bas) La Crêperie du Major was just what I was looking for after dinner. They had a nice cozy atmosphere with a cute little cork-incorporated menu. The kitchen was visible from the small dining area, and there was only one person serving the tables, but the service was all the better. On the menu, I found just what I had been craving: La Morbraz. It was a soft crepe drizzled on one half with chocolate and on another half with salted caramel, topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream all for €7,30! The caramel part was warm and basically to die for, whereas the chocolate didn't have as much of a nutty flavor as I wanted. My friend had ordered a simpler crepe with honey and shaved almonds for about €5. Hers was delicious as well (and probably more calorie-saving). Overall this place was a wonderful little find, and best of all it's open till 10pm, a great thing when most shops here close at 7pm. À la crêperie, j'ai pris " La Morbraz ", une crêpe au chocolat et au caramel au beurre salé avec une boule de glace vanille. C'était exactement ce que je voulais ce soir ! Ma copine, elle a pris une crêpe au miel avec des amandes grillées, et c'était très bonne aussi. Si vous cherchez une crêperie cosy et délicieuse, je vous recommande celle-ci ! read more

4.5 if I had the option. Rue du Major Martin is more like an 'alley' than a street, but that just adds to the charm of this place. We always like to eat local when away from home, and avoid the tourist Meccas and chain restaurants. So this was right up our alley.... Great hospitality, and patience to help us through a very lengthy menu en Francais. In the end, the choice of crepes were both delicious and filling. We had a carafe of Rhone red (vin rouge) and a pair of dessert crepes as well. All this for scarcely more than $50 US. We felt right at home and very welcome even as it appeared we were the only non-local dining this evening. read more

Traveling on business can be an adventure if you want it to be. I used to eat in my hotel rooms because I was intimidated by the idea of eating out alone. Especially as a woman, it can be... a bit uncomfortable. I was on my last night in Lyon after an afternoon of shopping and I was starving. The hotel I stayed in suggested a couple of Lyonnais restaurants down this road but they were fully booked for the night. When I saw this adorable little Creperie, I figured it was worth a try. The decor was very ecclectic. There are paintings and statues of gnomes and fairies everywhere. I found the murals that decorated the walls quite charming. The menu was extensive so I started with a Kir Bretonne while I wanted. I love the French tradition of an aperitifs, a long dinner with lots of courses, cheeses, desserts and a digestifs. What a way to live! The Kir was tasty but the crepe blew me a way. It was a delightful balance of creamy, salty, and sweet. I had the crepes with the bay scallops for my entree and a basic Grand Marnier crepe for dessert. I was quite full by the end but oh so happy. Despite being alone the waiter/owner? was very charming and patient witih my poor French. Glad I decided give adventure a go! read more

This is an amazing, authentic crepe spot! I thought the price was honestly pretty good (and wouldn't get cheaper for an authentic spot). The savory crepe was good but the sweet crepes were all incredible. Also, they have pitchers of hard cider that are super great! If you show up right when they open you will for sure get a seat, but if you don't make a reservation if you want to go later in the night it may be hard to get a seat. read more

Love this place! Have been here several times. The staff is friendly and welcoming, especially if you arrive early and they have time to chat before too many guests arrive. Great ambiance with the walls covered in whimsical murals. The ciders are fantastic, we have had a couple that really stand out. The crepes are perfectly done, with plenty of choices for salty and sweet. The caramel used on the sweet ones is extra yummy. A cosy and inviting option especially for a cooler evening when outdoor dining is not an option. read more

The crêpes use buckwheat instead of normal wheat flour, and they don't bother my stomach! On top of that, they are absolutely delicious. I came here twice for both breakfast and lunch and was not disappointed either time. I had two different crêpes but I did have crêpes both times. They were amazing and delicious. The guy who runs the place is also a good time to talk to. There's a bit of a language barrier but he embraces it instead of being put off by it and does it his best to make your meal enjoyable. read more
