Our server also recommended 2 dishes and I simply cannot remember the name of. One was a tuna type fish that was a whole filet.. Its a bit oilier for my liking but my husband raved about it. My white fish was cooked with bread crumbs and tomatoes. It was light. Loved it! This is a local joint. Our taxi driver knew about it and said it was a local favorite. The location is great: right on beautiful Piazza Solferino in the historic center, very easy to reach. The restaurant itself is elegant but still feels welcoming, with a spacious main dining room and a smaller, more intimate side room. The menu has plenty of choices, with a strong focus on seasonal and local ingredients. I tried several dishes, and they were all fantastic. One dish I definitely recommend is the steak tartare with quail egg yolk, mustard, anchovies, onions, capers, and a touch of Tabasco (a great balance of flavors), which is brought to your table with the ingredient kept separate, and the assembled table-side by the waiter. The zucchini blossoms stuffed with ricotta and mint on pea cream (light and fresh), were also great, just like the tajarin alla Monferrina, a classic Piedmontese fresh pasta that was incredibly flavorful. For mains, I had the larded pork fillet with pea cream and broad bean salad, and the standout of the evening--the braised beef in Barolo wine with drops of polenta, which was rich, tender, and full of flavor. Even the bread basket was memorable, with breadsticks and a variety of different breads. Service was attentive and professional, and the wine list offers some excellent Piedmontese bottles to complement the food, plus great cocktails. The current owner who is the son-in-law of the original owner took our order. I ordered the pappardelle Raghu with rabbit and my hubby ordered the braised veal. The veal came with a side of pickled zucchini. I ordered a Da Mauro special salad which was radicchio, tomato, and Parmesan shavings. The salad had no dressing. The cheese was the dressing and it was good. The veal was tender and the tomato sauce was tasty. My pappardelle was good not quite al dente but the sauce was good and the meat was tender. Tasted like chicken ;-) For dessert, I ordered the seasonal fresh fruit with gelato and hubby had wanted a port which they did not carry but the owner recommended something similar but better he said. He tried it but at first thought it was sweeter than he'd liked but after the 2nd sip, it started to grow on him. The food was pretty good and the atmosphere friendly with the servers chit chatting with customers like old friend.

I started with the Mussels Marinara and was not disappointed. A generous portion and delicious flavour. The sauce is not tomato based, white wine, perhaps? I also went for the seafood linguine. WOW. Easily the best I have ever had... As it arrived I thought at the table I would never be able to finish the portion, but it was so delicious I literally could not stop eating. Crammed full of the freshest seafood and coated in just enough of whatever delicious sauce it was in. My idea of perfection. All the whilst Antonio and the wonderful waitress were kind and attentive, despite being run off of their feet. I love the old school system of adding the bill total up on paper as opposed to on a computer. Slightly slower but so much more personal. Sad to be leaving Torino tomorrow and particularly sad I won't be back to Il Giglio for a while now (they close soon for a few weeks for their summer break). Simply wonderful.
