    Chile rellenos! Amazing
    Kelly P.

My boyfriend and I have tried so many Mexican restaurants while in El Paso, and we both agree that the salsa here is hands-down the best! Martha, the charming and cheerful owner, was actually surprised we liked it so much! It doesn't have much heat and it's packed with flavor, and with the homemade chips, it's out of this world. I absolutely loved my chile rellenos dish, which came with rice and beans and tortillas. They weren't too oily like other places, and I even loved the sauce which was kind of a cheese sauce with peppers. Fantastic! My boyfriend got the cheese enchiladas, which he flavored up with the salsa, but the child rellenos are what stole the show. They are incredible!

    Best limeade in town!

The expiration was 2023, but I imagine the heat and improper storage conditions is what must have made them go bad. I've grown up with these chocolates and I can tell how fresh they are by the smell alone. Knowing they had gone bad, I still went ahead and took a bite and the taste was as disappointing as I imagined they would be. They were only 3.99 for a pack so I decided to let it go. Now, had it been the usual 9$ I pay in New York, then I would have rushed back in there for my money. My suggestion to the business, since you obviously can't open and check every single chocolate, open the packs, and sell them individually for 25 or 50 cents a piece. Although you might lose a couple of dollars per pack, @25cents, ($1.49) or make an extra dollar @ 50c it sure beats the bad review and bad feeling for the customer who wasted $4 for stale chocolate. Considering here in Texas, that's half of someone's a hourly wage. Anyway, as far as the business, they have a good selection of Indian spices, some Peruvian spices, some Colombian candy/ which at this point I wouldn't trust, frozen Colombian and Indian foods. It's a good place to visit if you miss wherever you're from, or just want to expand your pallets.

I had tried to go to the huge Asian styled building called Oriental Imports off Gateway several times but it was closed and boarded up even though Google Maps said it was open. Turns out it's closed and the owners have moved across the street literally and have a smaller space called Oriental Market. It's been open for about 6 months and I swear I've died and gone to Chinatown. It was "Big Trouble" for my wallet alright. I wanted to buy everything there...all the tchotchkes and snacks and tools and clothing and decor! From Chinese cheongsams, to Korean handbooks, to Japanese kimonos, clothing is definitely authentic and you don't have to worry about sizing since you can see the fit there, unlike online. The market portion has a lot of snacks and sauces and basically they've taken the most well known and tasty brands and stocked them, so they've weeded out the hundreds of off brands a bigger marketplace stocks in the hopes that you'll try another maybe cheaper soy sauce etc. It's just easier to find quality stuff here, imo. I got a lot of snacks and even got a Kaiju t-shirt that vaguely reminds me of the Jurassic Park logo, so it's mildly ironic. The quality of the items were far better than the actual Chinatown stuff I grew up with in Los Angeles, but we'll see as I use them over time. I'm so happy I don't have to wait to get my Chinese ointments and wait for Weeee to ship my stuff online. There's now a super cute local place I can go to get them and the prices and service makes it even better! The cleanliness and upkeep of the stores have fallen by the wayside, neglect and lack of attention to the presentation of produce department, meat department, and deli department. The produce department has rotting vegetables, and fruits with fruit flies flying around them. Employees move around what is obvious in plain sight, rotting vegetables and fruits without making sure that they are being removed and replaced with fresh vegetables and fruits. The meat department has meat that has lost its freshness! Meaning, a lot of the meat has a brown look around the edges hence the meat has lost its freshness and on the brink of spoiling. This is a Great Concern for me! I used to shop at Vista Market as a preference to other grocery stores, but now I seldom shop there due to the decline of its stores. Lord knows I have shopped at Socorro, Montana, Horizon, Zaragoza, and George Dieter and the common theme that is lacking integrity, pride and managerial leadership. It is sad that the creation that the late Mr. Pena started as a Mom and Pop grocery store has taken a drastic turn for the worse due to the incompetence of those in charge of this Wholesome local business!! It my Hope and Prayer those in charge will look within themselves and change the direction of how they manage this once Great local business. VM

Sadly the pricing reflects the fact that you're in El Paso. Nearly double what you'd pay at a Chinese market. So that stinks. It beggars can't be choosers. Some of the items didn't look too fresh and it was a little dusty in some spots. So not a lot of rotation of products. But overall was happy to grab some dumplings and egg rolls!

Wan Jia Le has pretty good reviews so we wanted to check out what they had! The store is in a little strip mall right off the highway but the sign is big so you can't really miss it. They have a pretty big space so I was naturally excited to see what they had. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of products they sold but unfortunately they were missing a few stuff I was looking for. I noticed certain items they keep low stock of as well. The chip aisle definitely looked like most of the products had been sitting there a while. I noticed the produce didn't look the freshest either. They also offer fresh seafood options but I would be wary of that since I don't know how long the fish have been sitting in the tanks. Overall, Wan Jia Le supermarket is a pretty decent spot if you're nearby and know that they carry what you're looking for. But honestly I'd rather go to Arirang Market closer to the northeast side of town. They had EVERYTHING I was looking for and their stock seems to be newer and rotated often.
