Every dish was absolutely delicious. Being the black sheep of the group, I got the Seabass while my other friends got steaks. The steaks were cooked perfectly. The seabass was simply divine. It was plated beautifully atop a bed of vegetables, inviting you to enjoy every single bite. The sauce was thoughtfully spread lengthwise across the rectangular plate, which also went wonderfully with the delicious bread. The Seabass was flaky and crisp and perfect. Our red wine paired beautifully with our meals, as per the server's recommendation. The dessert was incredibly balanced. Frozen nougat with a red berry coulli. The sweet, nutty nougat was cut perfectly by the tart berry. Everyone was asking for a taste. My friends scarfed down a Nutella creme brûlée in under 30 seconds, so it's safe to say that was delicious as well, I'd assume For only €30, for just a couple hours, this restaurant was our home. I hope you feel as welcomed to Toulouse as we did.

If you are wanting to get out of the normal tourist routine and spend time in a delightful country…read moreFrench restaurant, Le Caillau is the place! Beautifully situated among the vines of the Vallée du Lot, Le Callau is artfully considered, with seating under the trees or in a re-purposed barn or recently completed dining room/bar area. Chaz, his wife and their team take great pride in their 'farm to table' philosophy. Each server is well versed in the gustatory selections of the moment, and service is always warm and welcoming. Children of all ages find the interior courtyard interesting to explore, with its fountain and ever-inviting weeping willow tree. A walk along the country lane after an interesting, satisfying meal, prepare one for after dinner desserts and/or drinks. "Casual and VERY classy" is how the experience is best described. For example, I arrived with 3 elderly guests, all with some mobility issues, and Chaz immediately brought out padded chairs from the dining room as he recognized that old bodies would have a difficult time sitting for any length of time on the typical 'minimalist' patio chairs that are usually found outdoors. (We were in for a 3-hr lunch, so this was a great idea)!! Le Caillau is a 300-year-old wine domaine, and the complex includes a luxury 2-bedroom suite, including private swimming pool and garden. (NOTE: We have dine there many times, but never stayed overnight, so cannot speak to the accommodations, other than saying EVERYTHING is tastefully decorated and service at all levels is impeccable). Reservations are a must, but, in order to enjoy the experience fully, come when not pressed for time. This is a place to relax, enjoy and experiment with new epicurean delights! Attached are some photos, but photos at LeCaillau com are superior. Enjoy! This is a most memorable experience.

I've been eating at this restaurant since it was a cosy Auberge in a small but beautifully restored…read morestone building making up a corner on the village square. It typified French rural dining for me, simple, fresh, seasonal local ingredients prepared with passion and served in comforting surroundings. When they proudly opened up the new, seemingly characterless, restaurant across the street I was fully prepared not to like it, despite the terrace with fabulous views. Outside it was a bland building, out of character with the honey-colored stone and beautiful architecture of the village. Inside, it was typically nouvelle frou-frou Parisienne. But try as I might, I still loved it. And why wouldn't I? Chef Cyril is committed to fresh, local produce and has a passion for seasonal local food. He is not only an imaginative chef, constantly thinking of new ways to cook and serve traditional ingredients but a good one too. The flavours he creates are a constant surprise and delight. The interior of the restaurant is warm, comfortable and inviting and the terrace is a wonderful place to linger on a warm summer afternoon with Armagnac and coffee after your meal. His partner Camille runs a welcoming and efficient front of house and Fabien, who I believe is a renowned sommelier, is a lesson to all servers on how it should be done, one of the best I have ever seen. Order your food and then ask him to recommend the wine, he will surprise and delight you every time and not always with the most expensive wine he could sell you. So, given my love affair with the Auberge and its management team, why only four stars? I recently took my sons there for the first time. While the food was excellent, it was noticeable that Camille and Fabien were not there and the service was pretty poor, not to mention the fact one young lady could really have done with a better wash. Camille did turn up part way through service and things bucked up but we definitely missed Fabien's sparkle. I have no doubt this was a blip and it does not put me off recommending this fabulous restaurant and its wonderful owners :-)

Camille and Cyrille have recently redesigned and renovated the restaurant, creating a very attractive terrace, ideal for dining outdoors on those warm summer evenings. Whereas most restaurants in this area emphasise the regional specialities (duck, foie gras) the menus here tend to be more creative and sophisticated. Lunches start at 9 euros for just a main course and a glass of wine, and go to 17 euros for starter, main course, dessert and wine. Evening menus from 23,50EUR to 55EUR.

Quaint and cozy with only about 10-12 small tables inside and about 5 outside. I had a big breakfast so was not hungry but restaurants close at 2pm so I forced myself to try something new. Since menu was in French, I told waiter to select for me. It was a pre-fixed lunch for 20€ with starter, main, and desert. My final bill came out to 27€ with the added 5€ for wine and 2€ for coffee. I tipped 3€ as not sure how much to tip in France; if you do or not? Food was good, not exceptional where my eyes would roll on first bite, but I was not hungry and I am on a picky side by most standards. Upon sitting, without asking, waiter brought out a free house cold bottle of water. I like this as I hate it when they make you feel cheap for asking for free fountain house water versus pricey bottled water. I drink lots of water so buying bottled water will be pricey for lunch. Service was exception with nice friendly waiters. They don't hover over you with constant pestering of inquires; I was left alone to enjoy the dishes at my own pace. The dishes are nicely decorated similar to a fine dining restaurant, but served by casual friendly down to earth waiters. I feel right at home. Would I come back? YES!! I changed my mind at the end of this review. I change rating from 4 to 5 stars. They deserve it.
