Stopping by for an early dinner Saturday, as I knew that the small space would fill up later, I opted for the chicken and vegetable platter. Complete with rice, hummus, and a salad, and served with a side of fresh pita, everything was delicious- and would have been more than my fill had I not been so hungry! I washed it all down with a Moritz Red IPA, which surprisingly wasn't too hoppy. Furthermore, the service was unusually friendly for Spain. Woohoo! As good as it gets!

There's a machine cranking them out, so you know it's gonna be good. I got this to go and didn't snap a shot, but it was delicious! The meat was tender, seasoned well with a bit of a kick, yet not salty. There was a nice yogurt sauce that was a dressing for both the meat and salad. And the pita bread had a great chew to it. And this only costed €5.50! What a deal and it hit the spot!

Zurna does have delicious looking kebabs, but on this saturday afternoon, i wanted something on the vegetarian side. I should have just gone for the meat. Maybe it would have turned this mildly ok 3 star meal into a delightful 4 to 5 star experience. The staff was friendly, and it was amazing how the moderately sized dining room filled up suddenly at 3 pm. When i passed by again later at 2am, the resto was still doing brisk business. I wasn't a fan of the falafel (too dry - i prefer Maoz)... and the tortilla de verduras was a bit too greasy. I'm sure if i came back for those kebabs at 2am, this would have been an entirely different review. note to self: return for that update.

With a name like Swagatam, it has to be good. So let's get swaggy!…read more If I'm being honest, we have not become converts of Spanish food. (Please, no hate! We're not big into seafood.) However, we have enjoyed some great pastries here-churros y chocolaté at CHOCOLATERÍA 1902 and napolitanas at La Malorquina in Madrid. After all that, we needed something spicy. The winner of the best food we've eaten in Spain so far is Swagatam! This little gem is tucked a ten-minute walk from La Perdrera and two doors down from our Airbnb. Swagatam really brought the spice! As you can see from the picture our meal came with four house-made sauces and two house-made seasoned salts. My wife fearing over-spicing, went with mild chicken curry. I ordered medium chicken curry and my daughter medium chicken tikka masala. All appropriately spicy. I was happy to kick mine up with sauce number 4. We really enjoyed our meal. Not only was the food delicious, the owner, Lal, has been the kindest person we met in Spain and Portugal so far. To be fair, he could top the nice list in any country. He's just a positive, happy dude with a great outlook and attitude. He is a friend to all. The service was great and the prices reasonable too. Great quality and presentation. He brought my wife and I a shot of limoncello (we had to politely turn down since we don't drink) and a mango lassi for our daughter when we had finished our meal. Lal is a gracious host, for sure. We recommend a meal at Swagatam the next time you are at the northwest end of the Passeig de Gràcia.

As most people mentioned, the food was good and the service was better than expected. However, we were totally surprised when our bill came, and we saw we were charged 2.50 Euros per person marked as VARIOS. The host explained that this was a "tourist tax" charged only to non Spanish people. We hesitantly paid the check, but when we returned to the hotel, we asked the receptionist who informed us that this charge was not customary. It's angering that a restaurant would brazenly rip off a customer and put a damper on otherwise a pleasant meal.
