I went here two nights ago with family while on a Tuscan vacation. My daughter had found it via…read morereviews and we said "let's give it a shot". Had I known the incredible dining experience we were in for I think we all would have been on pins and needles for the incredible drive on the narrow curved roads leading to the restaurant. Make no mistake, this is not an "in town" restaurant. It is on the side of (close to the top of) a hill with the beautiful Monsummano Terme/Montecatini valley laid out below you. But as breathtaking as the view is, it paled in comparison to the meal we had. There were 7 if us so between the 8 appetizers we ordered and shared, to all the sides but 1 ordered and enjoyed, to then the entrees (everyone ordered something different- so we all got to taste each others) I feel like we can make an accurate review of this incredible restaurant. The service was outstanding, with every detail attended to (including stools for the ladies purses). But while the last thing I would do is say anything to diminish the care provided by the staff, the shining star in this place on a hill was the food. Chef Stefano (with his impressive pedigree including Le Cirque and others) is a truly imposing figure in the kitchen, (quite literally), but the food he creates is where his true genius shines through. Every single member of our party was swooning with every bite. Sharing became almost difficult as we wanted to simply enjoy every bite of what was on our own plates. Yes we all just had to try the plates before the rest of our party. I can not remember a more exquisite dinner in many many years. That the total price (including a tip that was not requested as is often the case in Italy, but there was no way not to leave one for what we experienced) was $100 US per person (this included 5 bottles of wine mind you! One of which we brought with us as we had bigger eyes than stomachs) is utter insanity. We hear people talk about "value" with food from a food pub, or local "decent " place. To have this meal and feel we got away for so reasonable a price is almost absurd. I don't know what other restaurants any of you were contemplating, nor do I care- make the effort to get here. You will enjoy every second. Your meal will leave you with a wonderfully content feeling that you just enjoyed something special. And it will all be provided for you from a location that is absolutely stunning. My only reticence at leaving such an effusive review is my concern that too many people will read it and find out about it, or Stefano will be lured away. But everyone at this fine restaurant deserves to be recognized and rewarded.
