Fabulous little (literally, it's tiny) drink place. They've got a really classy-quaint absinthe-inspired vibe. The wine is excellent and they have some great looking cocktails. This is the kind of place that I'd suggest to meet a friend visiting from the US who wanted to have a "real French" feeling while getting a drink. It feels like Toulouse-Lautrec could show up at some moment.
But, then there was the food. Major point loss here. I get the sense that they were trying to go for a relaxed Brooklyn hipster bar menu. Their take on American bar food was a bit laughable, unfortunately. They actually serve hot dogs. Like, in a bun, on a plate, naked as the day. And, cottage cheese. A little pile of it, sitting ever so sadly on a plate next to real cheeses like cheddar and brie. Poor little cottage cheese. Oh, and then there was the "dips". Well, dip. One dip (crème fraiche with some chives). With a giant plate of sliced raw vegetables - carrots, cauliflower, sweet potato (yes, raw sweet potato...who eats that?), and some other undistinguishable vegetable. And did I mentioned they were sliced, not in dipping stick form? Fail. The onion rings were the closest we got to something potentially edible and American. I think the real issue is that they weren't sticking with their 1800s French theme. I suggest they stay on point.
So, big picture here is to stay focused on the drinking. Don't get tempted to stay for more than two drinks and then think you might stay for dinner. Please don't embarrass yourself by eating a naked hot dog in a classy bar. Just drink your cocktail and good wine and head somewhere else for the rest of the evening (or go here after dinner).
