But the large crock of soup was nevertheless great the rest of the way: hot, cheesy, graced with Thyme, and filled with nicely broken down breadcrumbs and well-caramelized onions. My first cassoulet ever sported white Cannelini Beans and white sausage with Languedoc confit of Canard. The dish was amazingly filling and quite satisfying. I was only able to put away 3/4 of what was presented before me. Meanwhile, Diane enjoyed a medium-rare Filet of Boeuf with mushroom Sauce and Galette Potato with Bechamel Cheese (au gratin potatoes). Rolls were undistinguished, and one fly alighted once on our table. But, everything considered, who cared?! Service was friendly and very good.

The food is very delicate, fine, well prepared. The chef is very young but you can tell he knows what he is doing. Staff: very helpful, always willing to describe all dishes and their customization. A big plus for the pork wellington. They serve genuine "pata negra" smoked black pork ham from spain (see photo). Make sure you try it! Outdoor seating. The reason seating is so limited is because the man working there is the owner, waiter, host, and chef. It's just him! Very impressive and definitely enhanced the experience. When you sit down he explains everything on the menu and how he prepares it. I had a red wine that he recommended and it was delicious! For dinner, I had the duck. It's truly as amazing as everyone says! However, the unsung hero is the salad that comes on the side. The dressing is a sort of mustard vinaigrette that I've never tasted before but will definitely be searching for in the future. I also had the chocolate fondant for dessert and the chocolate was so rich I ALMOST ;-) couldn't finish it. Overall, this place was amazing and definitely something you shouldn't miss when visiting Montpellier!

The chef puts so much thought and care into his dishes, which was evident in not only the taste of the food but the way he took the time to describe the process of each dish to us... et en anglais! We started with the chacuterie plate which had an amazing pâté. I ordered the duck- which was so soft and delicate. We were too full for dessert, but wish we had room to eat more. If I ever find myself back in Montpellier, I will definitely be back!

Service was slow but it was a Sunday night and we were the next to last people to get seated. Lucky to get anything since most places were full. Two servers and they were very busy. Ours was nice when we had him. Total of 47 for two meals, bottle of wine and desert.

I was there as part of a birthday party on a Saturday night and the restaurant was packed. There were other groups as well and people kept coming in and asking for a table until about 11! The menu offers a large choice of starters, pasta, pizzas and mains such as meat, fish and skewers. I opted for a salmon and scallops skewer. Considering it was a busy night and we were a group, I would say the food arrived quickly and the 14 of us were able to start eating altogether without waiting too long for everyone's food to arrive. My skewer was served with a side of linguini and vegetable julienne. I was not enthused by either of them, especially compared with the deliciously creamy gratin dauphinois that accompanied the duck magret on the plate opposite me! That said, the salmon was perfectly cooked and the scallops were just right as well, a little on the underdone side. For dessert, we all had the birthday cake which was an Opera: a thin layer of sponge cake with crispy praline and chocolate mousse on top. The cake was fabulous but the slices we got were double or three times the serving we would have eaten had we cut it ourselves. Most of us could not finish it... So beware, keep space for dessert! The service was friendly but a tiny bit rude sometimes. For a busy night this can be understandable though, but not excused so that's 4 stars for Cafe de la Paix!
