I have a rule that I rate restaurants that can't get any better with 5 stars. I rate restaurants…read morethat can't get any worse with 1 star. Not getting any worse means I probably got sick. Since Partners and Brothers didn't make me sick they get 2 stars. Right before our rear-ends touched the seat one of the 16 employees on duty asked us what we wanted to drink. I told him we just got there and would need to look at the menu first so he stepped away about 5 feet and hovered. A few minutes later he came back over to the table and started re-arranging the sauces but we were still deeply involved in reading the menu and discussing it. Less than a few minutes later he approached our table which had all three giant menus still high in the sky asked us if we were ready to order. I looked directly at him and said NO authoritatively. At this point he was starting to be a pain. This was the third time he'd bothered us in 5 minutes. There is good service and there is irritating service. This time he sensed the seriousness in my voice and stepped away. I started to wonder if tormenting the customers was company policy because there were 10 people eating in the entire restaurant and 16 employees in the front of house hovering over them. When we figured out what we wanted we motioned him over and ordered. We got the stuffed peppers for appetizer and three burgers - one with cheese in the burger patty, one with mac and cheese on it and one that was pretty standard with bbq sauce, onion rings and bacon. Our stuffed peppers arrived and we started eating them. They were not stuffed with cream cheese which is customary but rather cheese. There was very little flavor at all but lots of runny cheese and breading. We got one pepper each eaten and our food showed up. The waitstaff started placing the slabs of wood that the burgers came on in front of us even though we had no room. We had to hold up our current plates with our appetizer on them while they put our burgers down. Then we had to push everything off the appetizer plate onto the burger wood. It was ridiculous to serve the burgers seconds after the appetizer on a small table. We all got sweet potato waffle fries which was probably the highlight of entire meal. In Merida there are two types of burgers - those made with a rubbery fiberlike material that passes as meat and then those that have actual ground hamburger. In the former category is Angry Angus, Chuper and Rock burgers. The toppings are great, the burger patty is not all meat as the texture and flavor is all wrong. In the latter category is Agogo, Mu Smokehouse, Bryans and Truck Chef. These are made of real ground beef. Partners and Brothers seems to be somewhere between the two. It kind of looks like ground beef but it's a bit soft and squishy with monotonous flavor. If you attempted to eat the beef patty by itself you'd probably gag it's that bad. My burger had bacon, lots of bacon. So much that I couldn't taste anything else so I took half of it off. It also had onion rings which makes the burger so tall you can barely eat it. It looks awesome in pictures but adds little to the flavor. The Mac and Cheese on one burger was cloying. Guy Fieri sells a Mac and Cheese burger and actually pulls it off. This Mac and Cheese burger came on Rye buns which wasn't mentioned in the menu and was just strange. This is a miss. Also putting cheese inside the patty might work if it was actually good cheese. Putting bland tasteless cheese in a hamburger patty is a bad idea. Our daughter loves stuffed peppers but even as we attempted to finish the burgers the last stuffed pepper sat. All three of us had burger left as well. They just weren't good enough to choke down. We all ate our sweet potato waffle fries though. While we were in the restaurant people kept going in and out of a giant sliding door to the deck. Every time they did a giant whoosh of hot air rushed over us. So much for cooling down in an air conditioned restaurant. We started to sweat. The doors clanged as they slammed, over and over again. Slam, whoosh of hot air, clang! Repeat every 30 seconds for 45 minutes. We asked for the bill which was 731 pesos which is quite a lot for three burgers and an appetizer. I gave him 1000. When he gave me my change I noticed that he shorted me 9 pesos so I took it out of his tip. Later I thought I probably shouldn't have even given him one. Honestly the burger could have been worse. I've been to some other places that was worse than mediocre. The service couldn't possibly worse. There were so many employees standing around hovering over the few customers that it wasn't very pleasant. This would be considered good service if going into the dentist for a root canal and him pulling all your teeth could be considered good service. I can't imagine ever wanting to go back here.
