La Bruja: "the witch".
This coffee bar and art gallery caters to the constantly changing population of Barra de Navidad. Located just one block off the Pacific Coast, this snowbird's paradise cafe gives you everything you need: delicious coffee, pastries, and breakfast sandwiches, surrounded by art from the area, all stirred and served with a refreshing dose of sass. When owner and operator Alison is behind the bar, you can guarantee two things: an exceptional product and a take-no-crap attitude. She's here to take care of business and have a good time living the ex-pat life. Abrasive? Maybe. Snarky? If you're lucky. But genuine and forthright? ALWAYS.
Alison has been running La Bruja for 7 seasons now, and living in the area since 2007. She is a great local resource for those wanting to explore. In talking with her I found out that the name, La Bruja, was sort of a double entendre on accident. When she was first traveling through the area she happened upon a great local surf spot called 'La Bruja'. That was the original thought behind the name. But those who meet and start to know Alison understand that 'the witch' might just be what you get if you're here to start trouble!
Things to know before you go:
**This is a seasonal establishment. When the tourists and snowbirds are in town, she's open for business. During the summer months you'll be hard-pressed to find anything other than a spattering of local businesses. This town shuts down in the hot months.
**Go inside to order. Get there early and grab a table out front in the shade and watch life as it slowly starts moving around town, but don't expect food to magically appear. Alison and her staff are at the counter inside. While there are a few signs posted, they can be easily missed. Order your americano, made with fresh, locally roasted beans, and a delicious cheddar, egg, and bacon breakfast sandwich at the counter and they'll bring it out to you when it's ready.
**Internet can be spotty. WiFi is offered, but not guaranteed. read more
