And for dessert I had a piece of pear & almond tart - vegan and gluten free. It was all very good. My friend had a chickpea tajine that was a little spicy and served with couscous. I only had a taste but it certainly left me wanting more. I really like that this place exists and is so close to my house. I do wish they were open for evenings and weekends though. (They do serve dinner Monday - Friday but it's by reservation only.)

It's more of a cafeteria than a restaurant but that's ok. But the food is after all just nice and nothing one couldn't make at home. It might deserve four stars for veggie-deprived France but for more vegetarian-friendly countries (i.e. anywhere but France) it's a bit disappointing, it misses the twist and some innovation. The prices range from around ten Euros for a big salad to nineteen for a set menu that includes starter, main and dessert, which I find a bit steep for what you get. So like my star dilemma, not sure if I'll go back despite everything that it has going for it.

I LOVE PANI JO!! I recently had the pleasure of visiting Lyon because my girlfriend is studying…read morethere. Before I arrived she was always talking about Pani Jo, so naturally we went the first night I arrived. I forget the names of the dishes but we started with a salad that had asparagus and dried meats which was one of the most amazing salads I've ever had. Then we went on to a pizza that had fresh basil and a bit glob of mozzarella cheese in the middle. It was such an amazing, fresh, tasty pizza. The service was the best service I had in my whole time there. Our waiter was so upbeat and friendly and so so so funny. He tolerated my awful attempts at speaking French and even gave us a free shot at the end of dinner. My girlfriend in I ended up going there 4 times out of the 9 days I was there, which says a lot considering Lyon is the stomach of France. I cannot wait to come back here someday!!

Pretty good vegetarian pizza…read more I had the Ortolana, which is grilled veggies with tomato sauce, arugula, and cheese. The veggies included eggplant, bell pepper, and black olives. The eggplant was a little on the bitter side and the peppers were very oily but overall, everything was tasty. (The olives were even pitted! Not a guarantee here in Lyon, for some reason.) I'm not sure I would pay 14€ for it again but that is a standard pizza price in Lyon and this was much better than many other "pizzas" I've experienced here. Still, I've had better. The atmosphere is pretty loud, even for lunch on a weekday, as this is in a university area of town. Our waiter was friendly enough though we did have a weird interaction at first where we asked if the lasagna of the day was vegetarian, he said no, then he disappeared and didn't return for a while. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he was probably just really busy. I've seen veggie lasagna on their menu board outside and I'm dying to try it so I'll review again once that occurs.
