This place literally saved my life....well perhaps that's an overstatement but after a week in…read moreItaly and all the pasta, we were hankerin' for something a little more familiar and found this place near the ol' train station and popped in for lunch. The first thing you notice is how hard the are trying with the Wild West theme and it makes for some interesting and inadvertent faux pas like the sign that says "Indian peoples" or the fenced off section of tables with a sign above reading "the saloon" both are in English. Despite all the American cues and geography being Switzerland, everything else is Italian including menu and servers. Nonetheless it was pretty easy to decipher with the pictures and mostly familiar looking words like "iceberg lettuce" and "catsup." I ordered the Navajo burger (essentially a cheese burger with lettuce and something like McD' "special sauce") while my wife chose the American burger (their take on a bacon cheese burger except they don't really have American bacon and the strips were not even close to crispy) and each came with thin crispy perfectly cooked French fries. The burgers came out fairly quickly with what tasted and looked like grilled patties and buns. They even asked how we wanted the burgers prepared. The burgers had good flavor and were probably 1/4 or 1/3 lb sized so plenty for lunch. While not the very best burger I've ever had, it was certainly the best one I've had in the past week. My only complaint was the price ChF56 for lunch was a bit much, but a small price to pay for a taste of home.

TOURISTS BEWARE! This review is strictly about the service…read more We did not get a chance to try their food. We arrived at around 7:40PM on a Tuesday. Before we were seated the hostess had a 5 minute conversation with the waitstaff as we stood around awkwardly waiting to be seated. For the record we don't speak Italian. There was not a SOUL inside the restaurant. Not a single table was occupied. There were 4-5 wait staff present. They sat us in a tiny corner next to the glass door entrance. The waitstaff was milling around as we looked at the menus. 15 minutes later (not exaggerating) no one came to take our order, offer water or even say hello. They looked annoyed that we were there. I motioned to a waiter and pointed to the menu. He looked mad that we interrupted whatever he was doing. We got up and left! I don't know if they don't like tourists, or the fact that we don't speak Italian. We never got an explanation nor do we care to find out. Take this for what it's worth. This restaurant is it in the main touristy area. Perhaps they don't want to be bother with foreigners. Do Not Go!

A few girlfriends and I were visiting Milan and looking for an alternative to Italian food…read more We found Cueva Maya and decided to give it a go. The food was delicious and our waiter Mattisio was very friendly. We came right as the kitchen opened with no reservation so we were forewarned that it could take 20-30 minutes to get our food-- well, that was not the case. The service was prompt. We started with the complimentary chips and salsa(spicy:) and ordered margaritas. Two of the gals got the pineapple margaritas(7€) and described it's taste as "sitting on the beach." My friend and I split a 1L pitcher of the classic margarita(28€) Deliciously tasty and very strong. The only thing about the margarita-- the glass rims were heavily salted. I prefer less salt than more salt, however, a straw easily fixed that. We also got the guacamole appetizer(8€) with the salad on the side. Also delicious. The guac had a more creamy consistency than that of what I was used to but it melted in your mouth and was a good combination to even out the salty chips. The side salad that came with it had a nice crunch and was drizzled with a creamy dressing. Soon after we had finished devouring the guacamole and chips our entrees arrived. My friends each ordered the the quesadillas(8-10€) one with vegetables and the other with funghi. They cleared the plate and said they enjoyed the dillas. My other friend and I split the pollo fajitas! (22€) They were some of the best fajitas I've had, especially after an overdose of Italian food. You could tell the seasoning did not come from your usual "fajita seasoning" packet but the dressing was made in house and it was tasty. Sizzling hot and packed with fresh chicken. Along with the chicken came flour tortillas and a side of cheese, tomatoes, refried beans and homemade sour cream. I am not one who likes sour cream but this places' cream had something addicting about it. We both cleared the plate! To top off dinner, we had a few more tequila shots. The night was already good, but it got better. The waiter gave us some of the shots as a gratis! That was a pleasant surprise. As college students new in Milan we were looking for a fun place to dance the night away. Mattisio was helpful in suggesting a few good places that stroked our dancing fancy. Finding this small gem in Italy really hit home in curing our guacamole(food) cravings and the service was great. I would definitely come back if I find myself in Milan or the area again.

Tex-mex in Milano?…read more I came for business lunch one day while in town. I suppose they picked this restaurant because I missed American food??? Yes, they serve some Tex-Mex food here and I don't have any comments on them as I only ate what considered traditional Milano food. We were a group of 12 people and when we arrived, they had a table ready for us. Considering it was a lunch time, service was prompt and food came fairly quick. Since i didn't have any more meetings that day, per their recommendation, I tried Aperitivi. Their drink was made with Prosecco, it was a tad sweet for my liking but it was refreshing nonetheless. We shared some meat plates and can't go wrong with Italian ham. I tried some sort of meat with mayonnaise on top. I was told it was a traditional food there. It tasted like tuna mayonnaise.... it was good but since the portion size was big, I eventually got tired of eating. I suppose it was Texas size?!?! This place was packed at a peak lunch hour and I recommend making a reservation if you want to be seated right away.

What a pleasant surprise to find this thriving contemporary restaurant close to our dumpy airport…read morehotel in a faded industrial park. My first impression of Columbus was that they were a disco as a steady stream of 20-something young women we entering shortly after they opened at 7 dressed in all manner of finery being admitted by an ear-phone connected bouncer at the front door. Throbbing music hits you in the face after you enter. Apparently this place is some sort of aperitivo (like happy hour but full priced drinks with free appetizers) hot spot that has hit a chord with budget-minded young folks. The food station had over a dozen munchies from fried potatoes and corn tortillas to cheese and meats. We however were looking for dinner and were escorted out to a quieter open air patio where numerous fans were keeping things comfortable. After 11 days in Italy we were looking for a change of pace so as a starter ordered nachos (described as corn triangles with cheese and jalapeño on the menu). I ordered fried sticker strips and chips whither we more like Burger kings chicken fries, or long thin chicken McNuggets with thick cut French fries. They even had packets of catsup on the table! My wife got shrimp tempura -5 jumbo string in a very light batter that she enjoyed. Dessert was the 3-chocolate mouse that was also pretty good. When we left, the place was packed, mostly with young people enjoying the free chow and drinking spritzers, daiquiris, and other cocktails. An interest and happening spot to be sure.
