She had been in the hospital and then a rehabilitation center after suffering a hip fracture at a retirement community's memory unit in Portland's West Hills. That community looked like a high end hotel and was considered the best in the Portland area. It was expensive but I assumed it meant my mom would be receiving high quality care and that was extremely important to me. I quickly learned that a beautiful facility and high fees do not translate to good care. The staff were pleasant but did not seem connected to the residents and took care of their needs in a perfunctory manner. They were also unskilled when it came to working with memory impaired individuals. When I called to check in, they seemed to have no idea how my mom was doing and my mom was rarely bathed. This concerned me and so I ended up paying extra for personal caregivers several times a week. It was at this facility that my mom was intentionally pushed over by an 18 year-old unskilled caregiver and suffered a extremely painful and debilitating hip fracture. After rehabilitation, my mom arrived at Farmington Square. She was crying and clinging on to me as this was her third transition within a span of 2 months. I was not able to accompany her inside as Farmington was abiding by strict COVID protocols. The staff there went out of their way to help my mom feel at ease and helped her get to know other residents. They also reassured me. Whenever I called to check in on her, they clearly seemed to know and care about her and provided detailed updates. When I spoke with her on the phone, she seemed happy. Once limited visits were allowed, they were very accommodating. In June of 2021, my mom's health declined and she was placed in hospice. Initially, I was going to bring her to my home, but I realized her needs exceeded my capabilities. I felt like I was letting her down but after spending time at Farmington with her, I quickly realized that she had wonderful relationships with the residents and caregivers and it was home to her. My sisters and I stayed with my mom 24/7 during the last weeks of her life and we were able to observe the consistent high quality care that my mom as well as all the other residents received. These outstanding caregivers were all emotionally mature individuals who were naturally compassionate people. They were attuned to my mom's needs and she was receptive to their caregiving because they were well-trained and had developed a trusting relationship with her. The staff and administrators even took care of me and my sisters. They brought in trays with coffee, ice water, and snacks and sat beside us as we struggled to say goodbye to our mom. Through these experiences I have seen the very worst and the very best of care for a loved one. Farmington exemplifies the very best by focusing their efforts on hiring extraordinary caregivers, which meant that my mom was always clean and comfortable and experienced the joy of meaningful relationships and feeling loved at the end of her life.

My mom lived there for the last 2 months and she had warm loving care from caregivers Liliya, Lora and Denis (owner). During such a difficult time when my mom was on Hospice, they watched after her around the clock to made sure she was kept comfortable, well fed and cared for. The aroma of homemade meals cooking always welcomed me and it was heartwarming to know my mom was getting the best nutrition along with nurturing care. The extra services that were offered, music and massage therapy, were an added bonus for the residents who so enjoyed them. Thank you Denis and staff for a wonderful place for my mom to live and be well-cared for.

My mother is living with Alzheimer's and has been at Caring Hands for six years. She is receiving all the medical support she needs through a visiting nurse, and the capable staff at Caring Hands. Caring Hands is family owned and run, so my mom is treated like part of the family. She has regular intergenerational interaction, and the whole family truly knows and loves my mom. In the midst of this disease, mom is treated with dignity and sweet encouragement to engage in life however she can. They talk and laugh with her. They have celebrations with their residents for holidays, birthdays, and throughout COVID have looked to care for their residents while visitation was not possible, complying with the state restrictions. I take comfort that my mother's health and safety has been their first priority and appreciate knowing that this home is immaculately clean. Plus, there is always something delicious cooking in the kitchen! When my mom has needed extra support, we are contacted about the best way to meet that need. I recommend Caring Hands Senior Home to anyone who is looking for a small group home who will care for their family member, body, soul, and spirit, with dignity, respect, and love.

Prior to coming to the Springs, her previous nursing home kept her heavily medicated, and she was not even able to function or communicate with us. Your different approach, which required more effort, attention, and true compassion woke her up for us, and even in the week before her passing, we were able to have loving conversations with her. We really appreciate the special care you provided for her, thank you for your extra efforts and kindness... I know she was not an easy patient. The caregiver said that there just wasn't enough people on the weekends and in the evening to take care of it right away so they had to sit in their assisted living apartment and smell the feces all morning and afternoon until I raised hell and finally it was cleaned up at 4:30 in the afternoon.....you can have this type of care too for 11,000+ a month!

From the moment you walk in the door you feel the warm atmosphere as you are greeted by staff and begin to see and hear and smell the things which contribute to the culture of this facility. The facility is always sparkling clean no matter what time of day you arrive you find your family member and their surroundings fresh, clean, neat and tidy. In addition there is a lovely secure outdoor area (seasonably available) with a lovely gazebo, which can be accessed from the living room and it is a lovely place for families to visit with their resident. I have witnessed many residents enjoying this area last summer and my mother in law especially enjoyed this area. My mom is so much more content, she's more talkative and cheerful, and she's healthier now than she's been for the past few years (I think it's because the food they prepare is so fresh and healthy). Miriam the nurse is so attentive and caring and Raluca really understands the needs of her residents. The whole staff is so helpful and kind. My family and I cared for my mom at our childhood home for 2+ years, but when her dementia progressed to the advanced stage, we realized she needed more care than we could provide. Luckily, we found Jenilee and her care- team at Heritage House. My family and I took a tour and were immediately impressed with the care team's friendliness, knowledge and ability to provide 24-hour skilled (and loving) care. Heritage House is located on a quiet, tree-lined street in a residential neighborhood. It's cozy and clean --full of plants and light, with a loving small dog and cat who like to check in on residents. Sadly my mom passed away a few nights ago (in her bed at Heritage House).
