Plenty of jokes and interesting descriptions about the history of the place. This building was originally a jail when it was built, intended to reflect the ideology of a British man who was set on reforming prisons. Like many countries when faced with an influx of immigration, the population housed in the jail were disproportionately made up of immigrants being punished for minor offenses. It was later converted to an English-language college that didn't last very long. The building finally wound up becoming an English-language library that now serves as the English-language cultural center of Quebec City. The library is filled with artifacts as well. And that old library smell is heavenly! The tour was a little boring, but not terribly, which is the only reason I give it 4 stars. I would have liked some more photographs from that time to be displayed throughout (even though I know they're probably incredibly rare). I did find myself checking my watch, but probably because we came in starving. If you're a history buff, library nerd, or jail hobbyist (lol), definitely try to check this place out.

Over the years it has been the site of hundreds of recreational and social events. The military origins of the Club are represented on its grounds by pyramids of cannon balls and an old cannon. I attended a private reception tonight and had a chance to check out the dozens of opulently decorated and furnished rooms at the club. The rooms are huge - gorgeously decorated with paintings on the walls and dark woodwork and paneling. Our group was set up outside under a tent, and everything was just perfect. The bartenders, cooks, servers, and everyone we encountered was professional and first-class. It's conveniently located on Rue Saint-Louis in the middle of the busy tourist zone

She also opened up the bar but had moved on to ring others up by the time I wanted to get a drink (perhaps they were shortstaffed that day). The highlight of the visit was the opportunity to make your own "maple on snow" or maple taffy. An assistant poured a strip of maple syrup onto a cold, snowy surface and you grab a stick and slowly roll up the syrup as it hardens into a lollipop. The taste and texture were amazing! Definitely a unique experience.

The head desk person told us that we had a message written in our reservation stating that we were so kind that we got one day of free breakfast. How amazing is that! Honestly, very much appreciated. When asking to know about any other locations to go grab a bite, the staff member at the desk heard about our kindness and told us that it was added in our reservation that we were allowed one day of free breakfast at the restaurant next door. This was so amazingly sweet! Honestly, wasn't expecting that a small act of kindness can lead to all this. Anyone who is visiting Quebec City for the first time, I truly recommend this hotel. I honestly had an amazing time, that if I ever came back, I would definitely come back to this hotel. Everything was perfect; from a clean room, to beautiful decorations in every hall, there was nothing to be disappointed about.
