This gym: Bad positioning (close to terrorist area, 7 min walk from metro (often in rain), crowded as all other gyms, small, limited equipment. I met a few things and called a lot of times but no one is there to reply me. The average reply rate of my email is 10%. What the heck? The thing that disappoints me the most is that they keeps charging me. I am leaving on July, so I write an email saying how can I quit, the manager, called Colin, he replied that I have till end of August my contract to fill. I replied I am leaving in 2 weeks and I may write back if needed. But he did not reply. So I forget thisl. In October I realized they are still charging me, so I write an email : why? After 5 emails they told me I did not give them the email (which they did not ask for) while charged me for fees of October during writing me the emails. Classes, steam room/sauna (separate for men and women), dumbbells…read more(hidden in a corner, sort of), machines I'll start with the cons: - Dumbbells only go up to 30kgs - They have heavier barbells, but they are locked in a room and you have to pay a "personal trainer" to access them - The dumbbells are kept in a very small area (with mirrors on the wall that you might bump with the weights) so if more than 2 people want to use these weights it's crowded - They play THE SAME SONGS OVER AND OVER AGAIN over the speakers. You will hear THE SAME SONGS every time you are there, no matter what time you go. I suspect the company has cut a deal with a music business to play the same songs ("pay for play") continuously. I cant' handle it for an hour, I don't know how the guys that work their deal with it - Instead of motivating videos on the televisions.. you'll see advertisements... CMG has sold that space to advertisers... (so why not the music space, too?). You'll see the same ads over and over again, every time you go to the gym - They allow iPhones to be used. For some this is a plus. For me it ain't. Pro: - It's clean - Doesn't totally suck - If all you want is a stair machine, treadmill or light weight machine, you'll be happy edit: I've joined "Health City" on blvd s. germain. Costs a little less, equipped more to my liking, and more people that are actually there to work out hard. No ads on TVs, ok music (sometimes none, which is fine). Better energy. Much happier there.

For Paris, it's a decent value for the money especially if you have an employer who offers discount certificates. They have a lot of exercise classes and a few free weights. If you go after work or during the weekends, it's pretty crowded. You'll see the same faces again and again -- there are some pretty serious weight lifters here.

Well, after weeks of closing (without refunding or compensating its members), this gym has undergone several major makeovers. They opened a huge biking section (Cycle Club XIII) a year ago, and they also opened a crossfit gym (not free - costs a lot extra in addition to the 80 or 90 euros you pay monthly to access this gym), and they also redid some of the studios downstairs for group classes. Was that enough? No, not really. The rest of the gym is kind of falling part and super old. (They built the gym over an old movie theater). At one point last year, water was constantly leaking from the swimming pool and everyone in the cardio room feared for our lives thinking that the upper level pool was gonna cave the ceiling in on us. It seems that they spent all the money we give them on improving sections which will give them more money (the Cycle Club - which has some classes which cost extra, and which attracts outside members, as well as the crossfit box). The equipment at the gym is old and outdated. Some of the machines may be broke. The air conditioner is old af and barely works (well also this is France, you can't really expect AC but come on, it's a gym). There is basically NEVER hot water at the showers. Keeping this in mind, I always try to plan my gym trips here around times when I know I can slip back home and shower, because no, I'm not a fan of ice cold showers in the middle of winter. The gym sits there and lies to our faces saying that the cold water problem comes from the Italie 2 shopping mall it's linked to but noone is stupid and we don't fall for that. I've gotten my hair done at the hair salons in the mall and they all have hot water and agreed that the excuse given is crazy. Call me crazy, but I think that for 90 euros a month, hot water could be expected to be included in that price? I usually come to do classes here, and on several occasions, I have arrived only to find that the class is cancelled but no heads up was given. There is a Facebook group for the gym, and they very easily could have let people known with a simple post. At one point last year, there was extreme flooding (a pipe burst) in the downstairs area and the class studios and entire downstairs section were closed for a few days. At another time, there was perhaps I think some sort of vandalism in the cycle club area if I remember correctly, and thus the biking studio was closed for nearly a week (as a repercussion). I mean if you were counting on doing classes and/or going biking, that could be a huge inconvenience. I guess like any gym, this place can get super extra crowded after work, which kinda sucks, but is to be expected. The best part about this gym are the coaches, who for the most part, seem to love what they do and know how to motivate and inspire. That and the convenient location for me are what keep me coming back despite the fact that this isn't my favorite CMG.

Unfortunately, the cons: men's locker room smells strong body odors and like shit when someone just took one, the lockers are weirdly shaped, no soap to wash your hands and in the showers. I did not take a spinning class but but spun on my own in the spinning room: the bikes sucks as you can not go faster than a jog without feeling there is something skipping inside the bike...
