Top Shelf Bistro…read more Whenever we do major travel, we are somewhat budget-minded, but we always allow for at least one fine dining meal per week in a venue that speaks of the best of the town. Such a place is La Bascule in Chateau de Vincennes, Paris. Everything was perfect, from the greeting to the service to the quality and creativity of the cuisine to the value. Entrees range about $35 per person, and that is actually very fair considering the amazing preparation, presentation and food quality. We shared an appetizer, had lovely red house wine, enjoyed two wonderful entrees (there really isn't a bad dish on the menu, so order your favorite), and shared a dessert. All were lovely, beautiful, delicious and served by Moulay who speaks perfect English and is attentive to every detail of fine dining service. We want more!!

The menus for lunch at 20 or 26 euros make very accessible dishes very well made and without staying hungry. The chicken "pressé" with foie gras is very good, accompanied by a chocolate sauce and a truffle ice cream that balances elegantly. The slices of mushrooms of Paris, in decoration, are a little incongruous. On the make-up of the pressing is very well made on the photo. The flesh is shiny so no dry, foie gras is generous in quantity. The sarda frigola with mussels, oysters and whelks are amazing for a billing at 6 euros. Perfect alliance on cheeks of monkfish with their lobster broth. This gives you a good meal while being light. The piece of beef is tender and especially interesting by the excellent meat juice that accompanies it. Soaking the potatoes is a little delight. The dessert plays the tropics between kiwi, passion and pineapple. Coriander has added an extra touch of freshness to the sherbet. Decor a bit cold as service, if it is efficient, could be a little more friendly. But it is true that the restaurant was full that day. Still, we have an excellent value for a lunch with menus that are not small. It remains to be tested one evening to see a complete service. We are in the presence of solid knowledge in cooking, a neat work, a search of balanced tastes. It is unfortunate that the photos on the website are disastrous and not completely valued. Bill of 81.80 euros for two people.

PARIS, FRANCE Absolutely delicious choices in this…read morerestaurant. Forget about getting in here without reservations. Pas Possible. With reservations it's fully booked every single night. The service, not typical for Paris as it was really quick if you wanted it to be so, and slow if you wanted to linger like most Parisiens do! We are once again in Paris for four months. This resto was one of the top 10 ... or 15... since we got here OCT 6, 2018. Four of us had the salmon grilled, cooked simply but buttery soft ... spiced to perfection though no spices that you can detect ( with rice etc) the salmon melted in our mouth. I ordered fries with mine... there food was so delicious ... fries were, not. Very friendly service and extra cooperative. Manager walking around asking if he saw anyone needed something, which was great as the servers were extremely busy. If you see the Apple pie and you don't bother reading every word when you are ordering in a busy restaurant ... it takes 35 minutes for them to make it from scratch so if you don't order it when you are asked if you'd like to start with a bottle of wine or a beverage ...you can NOT get the apple pie everyone speaks about. There is an Apple Gallet ( or an alternative apple ... dessert) I forget the name but I think it's gallet... it's like a round type of donut ... with caramel. I didn't think it was good and couldn't find any caramel taste. All six of us really enjoyed every bite of everything except my choice dessert. There was a delicious avocado - kind of chopped up in mouth size pieces mixed with something absolutely delicious. We went with friends who live in Paris and are there once a week and we were told everything is always very fresh and sumptuous. We paid for everyone. It was about 100.00 per couple in Euros so about 375.00 Canadian dollars, not counting the wine. We all ordered one glass of wine when we sat down, until we decided on which wines we would order. We didn't have anything to start- no salads etc. We all went straight for the "Plat". And everyone had dessert which was delicious except as I said the one I chose. It didn't matter as everyone - as the Parisians do offered me theirs I didn't accept, I had no lack of desserts during the week as there are pastry shops absolutely everywhere you look, they almost all sell pastries and bread.

First meal in Vincennes did not disappoint! Came here on a Friday night around 7:15pm. The…read morerestaurant was half full, with people sitting and having drinks - cozy vibes. The two workers at the bar speak English, and there's also an English menu - definitely tourist friendly. We ordered the Andouille de Guémené, which has caramelized onions, fried organic egg, Comté cheese, and mustard cream. The person who took our order was super nice and gave us a piece of andouille sausage to try, giving us a chance to change our order in the case we didn't like the pungent flavor (spoiler alert, we did). We also ordered the Raclette Maison Bordier, which has grilled pork belly, caramelized onions, organic scrambled egg, potatoes, and crème fraîche. Both crepes came out fresh and warm - you can see them making it from the kitchen window. LOVED the layers of the andouille sausage in the Andouille de Guémené and the uniquely smokey and pungent flavor. It paired great with the egg, and the caramelized onions almost had a wine-like flavor that was really delicious. LOVED the raclette in the Raclette Maison Bordier, incredibly creamy cheese and may be my new favorite type of cheese. Paired with the scrambled egg and potatoes, I'd imagine this crepe would be really good as breakfast. Both crepes had amazing crispiness which I loved! For dessert we got the Traditional crepe with homemade salted butter caramel sauce. This crepe came out looking pretty plain (just a crepe with caramel sauce drizzled over), but don't be fooled by the appearance. The homemade caramel sauce is some of the best I've had, super buttery, toasty, and easy to go down - I think I could eat spoonfuls of it without feeling sick. This meal was the perfect welcome to France, and I'd love to be back!
