So as we were walking by la gare, and passed several touristy spots, we ran into a host brother of one of our group. He was from Texas (and if you haven't guessed by now we were all college students). He led us down some of what we thought to be fairly sketchy alleyways and side streets. Until we found "The Egg". Now "The Egg" is a great place to go, even if you speak a very small amount of French. For the owner is Irish, and his bartenders all know how to speak English. This gem, was great. It was away from the touristy, and loud French, and we found a comfortable spot in the corner (although it was fairly crowded it was not overly so) and we sat down and enjoyed a few beers. Although the ladies couldn't find many fruity things to drink, I enjoyed my Chimay beer, served in a Chimay glass and served cold. The Irish owner was really nice and spoke perfect English. The only thing that knocked this down a star was the lack of selection. All in all a good bar to avoid the crowds and the annoying French (while attracting the amusant). Prices: (medium to high range) 4.80 EU- For bottled beer. 3.00 EU- For 1/2 a pint 5.50 EU- For 1 pint.

We enjoyed La Maison de la Lozère very much. This was a…read morecozy restaurant in the heart of the maze that were the hangouts of Montpellier. We entered into first what looked like a wine store. Traveling all to the way back reveals the restaurant entrance. Seating included indoor and outdoor options. We chose to stay outside and enjoyed a light breeze in the setting of open air and clear skies. We were greeted by our waitress who appreciated my attempts to speak French but ultimately obliged my preference for English. There were several menu options with the choice of ordering a varying number of courses or to just order a la carte. We enjoyed 3 course meals each including an amuse bouche, octopus, foie gras, fish, steak, and chocolate souffle served with a side of ice cream. The flavors all held true to what the respective dish should have been and spewed out with freshness. Everything was additionally cooked just perfectly. This was our first meal in France and set an expectation for what the rest of pur dining experiences should be. Certainly no regrets!
