They are a non-transporting department now meaning they respond to your medical emergency and render Paramedic care while MCA Monroe County Ambulance also responds with Paramedics and take over care and do the actual transporting. MISSION STATEMENT Our mission is to protect life and property while minimizing suffering and damage due to fire, medical and environmental emergencies. We are dedicated to protecting the lives and property of the citizens of the City of Monroe through public education, code enforcement and incident management. FACILITIES The Central Fire Station is located close to historic downtown. A satellite station operates on the West side of the community. EQUIPMENT A Paramedic Engine Company is deployed at each station. A 100′ Aerial Truck is deployed at the Central Station along with Water Rescue, Inspection and Command vehicles. PERSONNEL The department has 12 career Firefighter Paramedics on staff and are supplemented by 32 Public Safety Officers. The Fire Chief is the department administrator. Three-shifts operate under the direction of a Shift Commander to perform fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous material response, and extrication at motor vehicle accidents. ADMINISTRATION The Fire Chief is responsible for managing and coordinating the Fire Suppression, EMS, Hazardous Materials, Maintenance and Inspection Divisions. He assists in preparing and administering the annual budget and directs the planning, development, and implementation of all department programs in conjunction with Public Safety Administration. He ensures the latest techniques and methodologies are incorporated to ensure the department provides the finest in public education, code management, and incident response. The Fire Chief assures compliance with Federal, State and local laws, acts as a liaison with other governmental agencies and maintains a safe work environment to provide a safer community for residents and visitors of Monroe. INSPECTION DIVISION The Inspection Division encompasses fire suppression, prevention, public education, code inspection, code enforcement, and investigations. The division reviews site plans for new buildings and fire systems. The division has the responsibility to inspect for and enforce adopted fire codes, State and local codes, standards and ordinances that provide for fire safety in public occupancies located within the City of Monroe. The division conducts inspections of high hazard buildings such as schools, both public and private, public assembly occupancies and locations where large loss of life or property could occur. The division works with State agencies in the inspection of local hospitals, nursing homes, adult foster care facilities and above ground storage tank facilities. The division is responsible for fire investigation activities such as photography, evidence preservation, assisting prosecutors with criminal cases and working with State and Federal agencies. The division is responsible for the creation, administration and evaluation of all public education activities and serves as the liaison with the Building Department. FIRE SUPPRESSION DIVISION The primary function of the fire suppression division is to save lives and to protect property. Fire suppression personnel function under the Incident Command System to effectively manage all emergency situations. EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES DIVISION All career firefighters are cross-trained as Paramedics to provide Emergency Medical Services. These Paramedics deliver the latest Advanced Life Support skills and equipment to the scene to provide the best chance of survival for the citizens we serve. The Monroe Fire Department has 2 Paramedic Engines, fully equipped to provide the most up to date pre-hospital emergency care. In house continuing education is provided by on staff EMS educators. EMS transport operations are provided by Monroe Community Ambulance Service. SPECIAL OPERATIONS DIVISION The Special Operations Division is responsible for Hazardous Materials and Water Rescue incident response and training. The Frenchtown Fire Department is a combination department made up of full-time and paid-on-call firefighters. The Department Chief, Wendy Stevens; Shift Captain and Department Secretary, Angie Ashcraft staff the headquarters at Station 1. The Fire Inspector and the Shift Lieutenant staffs Station 2. Both Station 1 and Station 2 have at least two full-time firefighters (including the Officer) on duty 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. The department has four fire stations located in Frenchtown Township. Most of the department firefighters have become Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT's), Specialists, or Paramedics. They have 18 full-time firefighters and 9 paid-on-call (POC) firefighters. POC firefighters must live in the township or within 1 mile of the township boundary and respond from their homes.
