You want to enjoy your time in Paulliac!! The hotel itself was so charming though! There were several living room areas that you could relax in, a swimming pool, and even a small vineyard area with tables and service should you want something small to eat. It was extremely relaxing, and although there really is nothing to do on the Left Bank except wine tasting, it would have been nice to stay another day to enjoy this beautiful and charming hotel. Our room was very modern and cute. The swimming pool had plenty of lounging chairs - wish we had time to retreat here, but we simply didn't have the time. The service was so amazingly sweet and genuine here!!! The front desk attendant was so accommodating for us. We told her that we had an early train in Bordeaux at 7:45am, and she gave us helpful information on suggesting when to leave. Also, because of our early check out time, she offered to have breakfast and coffee ready take-away for us! When we checked out at 6am the next morning, we could smell the coffee when we walked in the hallway down to the lobby, and the breakfast pastries were ready prepared for us in a box, and the box was WARM and the croissants were delicious!!!! Wow. I wish we could have stayed a little longer to enjoy the real breakfast. Take me back!!!!!!

The nice pool and the well-equiped gym (opened for one customer at a time during COVID) were good additions to an otherwise flawless stay. The restaurant only serves breakfast, the main restaurant is 500m away in Bages, "Cafe Lavinal", for elaborate lunch and dinner.

Access to the main road (N10) is very quick as it is something like 5 minutes from the N10 road (road from Bordeaux to Poitiers). Wifi was working. That's not obvious even in expensive hotels. The Hotel crew were very welcoming and warm which was a plus. By the way, i booked only with no credit cards number. For me that was the most important. By the past i had issue while traveling in Europe. I am happy not to spread my credit card numbers as i travel a lot.

We missed…read moreour train from Paris to Cognac and a phone call to Arienne assured us that although we'd be arriving after the front desk was closed, she would be there to welcome us. She arranged for a taxi to pick us up at the station and upon arrival drove us in a golf cart to our fishing hut over the river La Charente. The fishing hut was quaint and very small with rickety stairs leading up to the deck and door. The room is only about 120 sq ft, just enough for a double bed, small shower/toilet/sink, a compact kitchenette, table, 2 chairs, and a loveseat. There is a rod to hang clothes, but nowhere to unload or store a suitcase. Nevertheless, it's cozy and the best part is that the deck is over the river. While we were visiting Cognac, it was raining, so we couldn't enjoy the deck, but it was lovely to open the French doors of the hut, listen to the rain and watch the river. For warmer times, there is a small swimming pool on the premises. The two fishing huts are the most private, but rooms can be rented in the main building as well as three Gypsy caravans. For an extra fee, breakfast is served in a charming room. Restaurants and Cognac cellars are within walking distance across the bridge and two patisseries on the corner. Although we rate the accommodations 4 stars, the service merits a 5. Arienne is definitely a gem and we would most certainly stay here again
