We walked into this bar in Cannes, France around 11:30 PM -- well before closing time (they close…read moreat 2:00 AM). There were several other couples inside, enjoying drinks and conversation. We were seated upstairs, came back down to order, and before we could even speak, the bartender announced they were "closing."
It quickly became clear that the bar wasn't actually closing at all -- the other guests were still being served and having a great time. The only difference? We were Americans.
We were told point-blank that the bar was closing "for us," while the rest of the patrons stayed comfortably seated. The staff directed only us to leave, without explanation beyond that.
It was an incredibly uncomfortable and humiliating experience -- not something anyone expects to encounter in 2025, especially in a city known for its international visitors.
If you're an American traveler, I'd strongly suggest spending your time and money somewhere that values hospitality and basic respect for all guests. There are plenty of wonderful places in Cannes that welcome people from around the world. Sadly, this is not one of them.
