The wife ordered a pasta with veggies. The mushrooms especially were superb. I was full after eating my dish but had to eat some of of hers it was so good. Finally we got an excellent tiramisu served with a side of chocolate crumbles and vanilla ice cream. I see most of the reviews are for lunch but i highly recommend staying in town and giving this a try'. Friendly service even though we asked for something they don't serve during lunch. So why remove a star this time. I have to differentiate these wonderful places and my only complaint is you have a menu on the street but aren't serving everything on the menu at that time. It's odd. The menu on the street advertised a plate of farmed cheese but that was only a dinner option and we were there during lunch. Why advertise it then? Anyway, be forewarned and remember the current "carte" is what they give you at the table-not what they advertise at the street. Nevertheless, they did have a charcuterie board and they gave it to us with only cheese, and they offered it-we didn't even ask. You know what? 5 stars. I changed it before posting. I don't care if the rest of my review no longer makes sense. There's no reason to take a star away. Great cheese, great wine, great views, friendly service that went out of their way to accommodate Americans who wanted something not on the menu. 5 stars it is.

We ordered: -escargot appetizer: 12 snails for about 24 euros. These were definitely very tasty, and one of the better snails that I've had. Came with a pesto-ey sauce. Snails were juicy -duck breast main with fois grois. The duck breast was delicious, but was very rare (the meat was red). I did confirm with the waiter that it was meant to be served this way. He said that it was, but I would've liked it cooked a bit more (and I'm a person who usually orders steak on the rare side). The fois grois was only okay... didn't taste as nice as the times that I've had it in Paris or even in the US. -"grande cafe" dessert, which was essentially coffee with a bunch of pastries including creme brulee. First of all, I think that this is the best value as it cost the same price as the creme brulee option, but came with a creme brulee which was almost as big, plus a bunch more things. Strolling the pedestrian streets was delightful. I especially enjoyed the terrace of the relais chateaux hotel Hostellerie de Plaisance. I loved their terrace with a beautiful view of the area. We enjoyed lovely area wines from the bar on their terrace. We also enjoyed their wonderful service. I highly recommend this boutique hotel and a tour of beautiful St Emilion!

It's wine country, so this is to be expected. What really makes it worth visiting is the friendly service, the local atmosphere, and the absolutely fantastic view. Most of the rivers-side spaces in the towns near St. Emilion are occupied by quite high-end restaurants. But la Marine has a fantastic enclosed patio that gives a broad, uniterrupted panorama of the Dordogne. It is truly breathtaking. The proprietors will give you a warm welcome, and it's a fine place to bring a large group. There are pool and foosball tables for entertainment, though a local will be happy to chat you up as well, if you want. We didn't get a chance to try the food, but it looked quite tasty from where I sat. One word of warning, they tend to close on the early side (9-10pm), so don't plan a late-night there. Sunset is the perfect time to enjoy a nice glass of vin rouge and a bottle of Pelforth brun (which set us back a whopping four euros total!).
