Chez Felix is a nice cozy spot in central Troyes. The decor is "modern country" and the chairs are…read morecomfortable. Which is good as you're going to be here a LONG time. We both ordered the dinner formule (3 courses) and a bottle of wine. And then we waited. And waited. And waited some more. I am not joking - it took ONE HOUR for our starters to come out. ONE HOUR for pate which is premade! It was plenty tasty and a large amount but the timeframe isn't cool. Our other courses lagged as well, not as bad though. In all, dinner took 2.5 hour and we were charged the ala carte price rather than the formule price. Not wanting to have to spend the night there we paid up. Maybe it was an off night?

They didn't have any vegan option when we went, but a vegan colleague asked for a special plate and they managed to make a very nice one. Desserts are also very expected: a chocolate cake, a pie, an ice cream assortment, a fruit carpaccio, all around €8. Service is nice, but quite obviously young and not very experienced. Bottom line? It is a conventional restaurant that will be consensual for a work dinner, or a large group. But I found it very expensive (starters cost around €10, main €18-25) for Troyes, and lacking the wow factor for that price range.

It is boasts to being a restaurant "gastronomique" but the gigantic portions and lack of creativity prove otherwise. The décor is quite lovely and the service is admirable. However the food is nothing special. If you order their tasting menu or anything for that matter it leaves much to be desired. I ordered a crab appetizer with duck (cooked blue) and then a chocolate cake for dessert. The crab was a gigantic piece of dough and crab. The plating was decent but it was way too much food. It seemed like something that could be served as the main course except it lacked any finesse. The duck was served and it was well rare. Not a hint of blue left. Since I was in a hurry, I tasted it and gave it back to the server. I told him I'd pay for it but wouldn't finish it. Lastly the chocolate lava cake was not very molten-y nor special. It was on the traditional lake of English cream but they did cut a bit of star fruit which would be cool except it tasted off. In all, not an experience I would come back to but worth a shot if you like elephants.

The service was really special and it felt like a much more expensive meal. Interior is spacious and nicely remodeled with ancient beans combined with gallery style mini halogen lights. The meal started with six very nice free appetizers. It also came with no hassle carafe of water in the piece of bread. I ordered the formula with a main dish and dessert and both were very good. I also had a glass of wine and that was also excellent and part of the formula. It even came with a coffee at the end it's all part of the formula. A wonderful experience.
