We were able to make selections from over 100 different cheeses as well as a variety of cured meats. The sandwich rivals my other fave from Alain Alain in Paris. It's a small but charming and quintessential Belgian shop. Traditional in every sense of the word. Simply put, it's a cheese lover's paradise. Catherine is extremely kind and patient as are her employees. They offer the ability to taste samples before making decisions. They're very helpful with making said decisions as well. A haven for like minded cheesemongers means the line can sometimes go out the door, especially at lunchtime. It is well worth the wait because so much love and care goes into every transaction with every customer. A most divine experience indeed.

Over our week long stay we managed 3 visits to pick up cheese, freshly sliced deli meat, bead and made to order sandwiches. The cheeses that we selected were so very fresh and the selection to choose from was amazing. Of course my favorite was the truffle. We picked up sandwiches on two occasions and they were basically the same. The second one Catherine added a new little taste with the addition of three small roasted peppers. We had forgotten to ask for arugula and Catherine asked if we wanted it on this one...what a memory. Catherine's is a small place and always very busy. Quality shines throughout. The customers are almost all locals...another great sign. We noticed that when there were about three people inside that the patrons formed a line out of the door. Think out of respect for Catherine. Wish we had had a quality shop like Catherine's in metro Atlanta. We would drive to experience this and here in the hustle and bustle of Brussels there is a gem. Highly recommend. I finally had the chance to redeem myself by attending the Brussels Tour where one of the stops was here. I spent a good chunk of my budget on chocolates for dad and made sure to not let history repeat itself. I purchased 5 macarons: 3 Salted Caramel, 1 framboise, and 1 pistachio. My all time favorite flavors brought me right back to that moment when I took my first bite on the streets of Paris. It was seriously like that scene out of Ratatouille where it brought him back to his childhood. It was the same for me! Best flavors of your life: pistachio and Salted Caramel. The prices are very fair for the quality. I ended up paying €250 for three Grand Crus assortment boxes and a stack of Kendem Lembu and Los Rios bars. The Kendem Lembu - Java bars are amazingly good if you enjoy 70+ cocoa count. Their chocolates have great complexity and richness. In fact the only chocolatiers that I would rate higher are Sprungli in Zurich and Le Maison du Chocolat and Michel Cluizel in Paris.

This store was one of the smaller ones we visited but its proximity to the Grand Place made it the obvious choice to duck into and escape the heatwave and indulge. I liked this store in particular since the staff were always warm and outgoing. They also were very generous in the sampling ;) Our newest favorite flavor was the calamansi Sensation. It was dark chocolate wrapped around dark chocolate ganache but with a very distinctive calamansi citrus flavor. We love calamansi and never imagined tasting it as part of a praline. If you really want to try it then go now since it will only be available during the summer! Lastly as part of their frequent buyer program, the store includes free samples to go. Staff just need to scan your Neuhaus Insider QR code and that's it. SO's taste buds agreed Neuhaus was the Belgian chocolatier on this trip and we'll be back.
