And honestly I wonders in because it was close to my hotel. I was glad I did because I found some really friendly owners (two sisters) who have been in Germany for 26 years. One of the owners felt talkative and we practiced our communications skills in my terrible Spanish and her English to the amusement of us both. I learned all about the challenges the family faced in moving to Germany and learning to modify recipes so Germans would eat it. So the food, once they learned I knew what Latin food was supposed to taste like and more importantly that I actually liked real Latin foods they decided to give me something off the menu. She said I won't like what they have on the menu because it was all designed for German tastes apparently Germans don't like things very spicy and they don't the flavors that their traditional Latin foods have or at least they don't purchase them. so the meal they made me was something she would normally make for her family. It was a kind of marinated steak and Yucca plants and other vegetables. Then she brought out what she called a chili sauce that was very hot but also very flavorful, she said Germans would never eat it and she was surprised when she saw that I liked it. The owner said most customers don't like chilis or peppers here. we enjoyed the rest of the evening I ended up staying probably two hours. Everything that they brought out was very good. I got introduced to other members of the family, I got to go back to the kitchen and made friends with everybody there. I was invited to come back and made me swear that I would return before I leave to tell them goodbye. It was really good experience and fun to be close to the people who are serving you. Normally I would not like so much interaction but being alone it was perfect. If you go in ask to order off the menu if your adventitious.

Arroz y Mariscos - so flavorful, so fresh, and such an amazing depth of flavor and seasoning. The crispy Peruvian bread was fantastic. Ask for the HOT chili paste, mix it with the tasty sauce they bring out with the bread for a creamy and hot spread. Staff was charming. They were working on a mural of South America on the walls. Service is in Spanish or broken English/German. Point and smile - you'll be fine!! Enjoy!

Everyone of us of course had steaks, with some potatoes and a bit of vegetables. The red wine was flowing, some of the best Argentinian wine of course. The inside is reminiscent of an old-school steakhouse. It's dimly lit and lots of wood and dark furnishings. There's shelves and walls of bottles and more bottles. Besides a great company and the good food, there was also bands serenading us through our dinner. Can't beat the abundance of entertainment at every corner of this dining room. The place felt so alive and vibrant. This is touted as one of the best steak houses in Cologne. There's a lot more competition today, but this one is still running strong.

The menu has a number of starters, salads, steaks and desserts. You can order your different cuts of steak cooked in different ways and with pepper crust or a few other combinations. You can order sides and sauces as well. My steak was cooked ok and lacked flavour for what was supposed to be a piquante :-) Portion was fairly big and normally I would have no problem with it but, the lack of flavour put me off it. All in all an ok place for meal. I am sure there are better places in town for a good steak.

We partook in the Klee menu a few weeks ago during our travel to Cologne. What really stood out to…read moreme was the aesthetics and vision of the menu. Each dish had varying degrees of sweet, sour, umami, bitter, fat, and salty. Some of the presentation were quite whimsical like the origin of the pretzel shape and its presentation, and some were stunning like the rose in smoke and the chocolate course resembling multiple galaxies. In terms of flavor though, we thought most of the dishes tasted good but nothing really stood out as amazing. I remember the visuals more than the taste of any particular dish. This is my own preference, but I think in trying to showcase all 6 tastes in each dish, all of the dishes ended up sort of blending together without much character or that explosion of flavors that make you close your eyes to savor each bite. I also liked the ambiance here - we had a view of the river from our seat and were surrounded my modern art and meditation music. We also did the wine pairing, but I actually thought the sekt we ordered off the menu was the best. The pairing wines had a great vision and introduced different grape varietals based on when they were first harvested, but we did not particularly think they complemented the dishes nor all that delicious. They also had a great concept of producing a map with QR codes that you can read more about the wines, but unfortunately were outdated so the finishing wines were a little lost on us. Also a heads up that the tasting menu lasted almost 5 hours, which is the longest from my experience. If you're with good company, that's fine but good to know if you have other evening plans.

For my visit, I decided to pass on the available "clover," (vegetarian menu) and non-alcoholic pairing to enjoy the classic "ox," (meat and fish menu with wine)... although both are "surprise" menus. Chef Gottschlich's idea for the restaurant is to compose each dish to contain all 6 primary tastes: sweet, salt, sour, bitter, umami, and fat. From the amuse bouches to the final Petit fours, he has obviously succeeded admirably. I particularly enjoyed the veal, bone marrow with sweetbreads in tortellini and truffle foam. I was also pleased with the scallop, caviar, black lime and rhubarb plate. The servers seemed relaxed and were extremely helpful. I did smirk at the uniform that the kitchen staff was wearing when they came onto the dining floor to assist. A younger Martin Gore (DM) would probably approve of the leather aprons, straps and buckles. After my meal, I spoke with a couple of diners outside while waiting for the taxi service. Apparently, I did not see any of the vegetarian dishes close enough to remark on the efforts of the chefs. My loss. Now I have to return to try the "clover" dishes. 2023 09 01. M2.
