Yay Normandian buckwheat crepes! I nod to Scott D, also a San Franciscan, for also reviewing this…read moreplace - Normandy-style crepes were a big thing in San Francisco for quite a few years (so sad to see you go, Ti Couz). So, with my SF-given knowledge that there was such a thing as Normandy crepes, I came here for my first crepe in the real deal Normandy itself! This place was great, but casual. It's probably best for lunch! For dinner, it works, but doesn't quite feel right unless you're trying to get something quick. The crepes are great. They're bigger than normal crepes, and heavier. La Ficelle provides an excellent array of fillings - pick from a list of 20! Or you can just choose your own. The crepes themselves taste almost like potato pancakes, especially the crispy edges. It's about 6€ for one crepe, and that's almost enough for a meal, but getting a salad is probably a good idea if you're hungry and/or want dietary balance. I definitely recommend this place for anyone wondering how crepes are done in this part of the world!

Yeah, this is the real deal. Great whole wheat (buckwheat?) savory crepes (we didn't try the…read moredessert crepes). We also got a "salad" with gizzards confit and walnuts, heavy on the gizzards and walnuts, light on the lettuce. Gizzards were AMAZING when confit'd. Seriously. If you like duck confit, you need to try this. Crepes were great also. Seasonal Rattatoullie and egg on one crepe, and potatoes, chevre, ham, and creme fresh in the other. Good cider options also meant for an excellent meal that didn't feel like you were getting ripped off.

This restaurant was quite nice, with a very eclectic décor making you feel like you were in…read moresomeone's home. We were seated just inside at a table under the staircase, and it was fine for me, but for someone taller it might have been a "headache" (no pun intended!) - but there was a lot of running up and down by the staff - apparently the kitchen is upstairs - and you could hear every step just above you. My husband sat across from me in a huge upholstered chair that he said he felt like he'd been "swallowed up" in, and he's not a small guy. He had to really scoot forward in order to get to his plate, and then leaning back was leaning 'far' back, since the chair was too, too roomy. Might have been a loveseat type chair. Anyway, we were seated, but waited a good ten minutes or so before anyone returned to us. We were there about 8pm or so, and things were bustling with a crowded bunch of tables, but scheduling sufficient staff should be considered. The same young lady who sat us ended up waiting on us and we noticed she had one helper (bussing, and pouring water, giving bread, etc.) but that was it. There were probably 15 table or more (many deuces, sure) but that's alot of tables to keep track of for one server. Anyway, once we got ordered and got our wine and appetizers, were relaxed a bit and did enjoy the meal. I had sole meuniere, which was very tasty, and my husband had the scallop brochettes, which he enjoyed. I enjoyed the pear crumble for dessert, and he had spiced pineapple which he didn't care for. The savory spices on the sweet pineapple spears just missed the mark for us. Overall, we felt the pricing was reasonable and we did enjoy our meal. Very nice experience.
