Surprisingly after only a short while in the morning we were able to check in to our apartments (previous trips elsewhere has normally meant checking in at around 4pm or so) and we were able to get squared away before hitting the slopes. There is a ski rental place built into the main building which made it very easy to get our equipment and return it at the end of the trip. It's about a 10-15 minute walk from the main Sherpa Supermarket and the majority of the restaurants in town, but only a few minutes to the nearest bar/restaurant Mont Blanc. The bakery is about a 5 minute walk from the chalets but you can order from reception to pick up the following morning. The Chalets are nicely furnished in terms of both furniture and equipment, although we had some issues with the oven. A couple of negative points about the place. Firstly only 2 wifi codes are provided for each apartment, this means that only 2 devices can be connected at any time. I guess this is to manage how much bandwidth is used but when chalets start as a 2 room apartment for 4 people. For an apartment with 6 people, it made it difficult - thankfully I had a gizmo that fixed that for us... Secondly is the trip from the lobby building (where the spa is located) to the chalets. It's outdoors - not a big deal, but it is also 5 sets of stairs... not that much fun if you have a) luggage, b) ski equipment or c) have been skiing all day... However, not much they can actually do to fix this short of building an elevator or escalator! Maybe a magic carpet? All in all, not a bad place to stay, they have all the facilities you want and it's in a nice quiet area of town with the nightlife close enough to get to but far enough not to bother you.

There's also an on-site ski hire shop and they offer a fresh bread delivery service every morning. I'd happily stay here again. The reasons it doesn't get 5 stars are: 1. It's a bit of a walk from the main reception area to many of the apartments, up several stairs. This is annoying especially when going to use the spa. 2. It's not very close to the main part of the village. It's perfectly accessible but if you want to go out for a drink after midnight you've got a bit of a walk to the main village (and back). 3. Larger buses can't drive up the road to the main entrance so you have a bit of a walk with your luggage to get there, but this is typical of many ski resorts.

Endless 'off piste' ski area. Big difference between the Alps and the US. Above the tree line, everything 'off piste' is game and ungroomed. All the trails are groomed nightly. Below tree line, same same, trails don't blend in like they do above the tree line. Anyway, hot freshly cooked lunch on the mountain, set us back $31, two beers cost a wopping $10, vail, sun valley and all the others should take a page out of this playbook. Anyway, the Alps offer FKN epic vista's, swing the plane tix, hop the pond, and you're in ski-heaven! Oh yeah, I almost forgot, the longest lift line was 4-5 min take that Steamboat!

We cooked great meals from grocery shop Super U in the town. Supermarche across the river was also ok. We rented skis from skiset next to hotel. Got 20% discount. There was Nordic skiing 15 mins away follow the river. Rent Nordic ski from Intersport across the trails for Eu10 per person. Some good restaurant & bakery around hotel. No need to walk too far. Catch the electric town bus for free to the main bus station in chamonix sud. Laundry available on the main shopping mall with free WiFi and soap included for Eu5.5. Staff were friendly. Store your skis or snow board in the basement locker. There is no house keeping so keep your towels for repeat use. 2 bathrobes provided for each room.

I spent so much time looking for a place to stay and there are plenty of chalets and apartments in Chamonix but most require a minimum of a 1 week stay. What's great about SnoStation is that they run several properties in the area so they'll provide what's available within your budget and range. I was able to book a 2 bedroom (4 person max) for 4 nights from Sat - Wed for only 630 euros (yes, a bargain!). It was in a great convenient location with bars, supermarket, equipment rental shop and bus stop that are minutes away. The place was really cozy - probably ideal for a family as the bunk bed room was so small and without any windows, but at the end of the day you barely spend time there anyway. It was nice having a full kitchen. What really impressed me was how helpful they are in arranging anything from lessons to lift passes and airport transfers. I'd highly recommend booking through them if this is your first time in Chamonix.

Our room overlooked the gorgeous swimming pool and the lake. Everything was geared for comfort - the modern room, the bed, the space, the breakfast (and the lovely afternoon wine and hors d'oeuvres) on the terrace. Service was fantastic and began long before our arrival - restaurants were booked, sightseeing routes were provided - no task was too insignificant for the wonderful staff at this stunning little boutique hotel. We would love to go back, and yes, maybe we will. Because it would be a shame not to. Highly recommended!
