I flew all the way to St. Petersburg, Florida just for some real Colombian food this week--and man,…read moreit was worth every mile. My brother who lives there swore by this spot, and the second I walked into Mi Carreta, I knew he wasn't exaggerating. The Bandeja Paisa? Absolute perfection. We're talking perfectly grilled steak, a runny fried egg, sweet plantains, creamy red beans, fluffy white rice, fresh avocado, crispy chicharrón, and grilled chorizo--all on one glorious platter. I attacked it so fast I didn't even snap a photo, but trust me, that plate is burned into my memory forever. As if the food wasn't enough, the TV above the counter was showing the World Cup group draw live. We found out who Colombia is facing right there over lunch--talk about perfect timing! The whole place was buzzing. For the grand finale, we grabbed a few Colombian donuts (buñuelos and pandebonos) to go. Sweet, cheesy, impossible to eat just one. If you're anywhere on Florida's west coast and craving authentic Colombian food, do yourself a favor and head straight to Mi Carreta in St. Pete. You can thank me (and my brother) later!

The food remains solid. We enjoyed the mahi mahi, the thin steak, and the Cuban sandwich. Plus, we also once again ordered the mojito pitcher. It's made table side -- though this time they did not add the rum in front of us. It always made us laugh when they poured a bottle of rum into the pitcher. When we asked, the waiter said the rum was already in the pitcher. That's the only bummer. Great restaurant that continues to deliver.

Suggest valet for $6 or a couple of trips around the lot to find a spot. We sat outside, which was enclosed and heated and your are right on the water. Super cool and great views. We started off with the toasted bread and butter and the devil crab croquet. Not a fan - full of crab but the flavors didn't sit well and really needed some type of sauce to pair with it - we only had hot sauce. The original salad - is a must we shared it across four. It's made table side has cheese and olives in it and was really good. We got ours with a side of shrimp. Main courses - Cuban - it's a classic sandwhich which we shared. Comes with fried plantains which were ok. Again would have been better with some kind of sauce to dip it in. Steak Salteado - good flavor l, was expecting thin sliced steak and it was more like stew meat. Paired with rice and was good. Palomilla - would be better as the sandwhich version. Again this one needed a sauce for dipping. Shrimp "Al Ajillo" - this is a must and the oil garlic mix is perfect for dipping you toasted bread.

The ample space is welcoming and decorated with an Andean - Latino ambience paired with soft piped- music . There is a restaurant section from which you can see the kitchen to the side. A complete bar is strategically placed behind a slightly- raised stage where live music can be enjoyed while trying any of the interesting cocktails , beers Or spirits ! On the other side one can find the bakery- souvenir shop where they sell many Colombian & Peruvian cakes, pastries and candies - yes it's THAT big Now down to the main event: food portions are generous ( we always end up bringing home some boxes ) and everything I have tried so far is so delicious , from the array of tropical juices , appetizers to share ( or not !) , main entrees , sides and desserts . There is something for everyone or you can plan to split! I enjoy the sides of maduros and the tostones. Food and service are perfect - it's no wonder La Mordida is here to stay !! Bravo !!.
