I joined Kythe-Ateneo as a volunteer last school year and I didn't really expect the experience I had in this organization. Kythe-Ateneo is the student arm of the much bigger Kythe Foundation whose work is spread all over the Philippines. Kythe is an organization that aims to provide psycho-social support to children in the hospital setting and to help in their normal growth and development. Being a volunteer in Kythe and now an officer in their student arm I can say that this is the most fulfilling and beautiful thing I have ever done in my life. Being a part of this organization whether you're a member or help by donating blood, hair, money, or through any other means is definitely one of the most rewarding things you will experience. I joined Kythe-Ateneo because I love children and I wanted to help them in any way that I could and as I continued my membership I found out so much more about myself and about the children I interacted with and it has impacted my life with so much intensity and profoundness.
What we do in Kythe as volunteers is really simple, we visit the children weekly, we talking to them, interact, play games, read stories, make artworks, or teach them. Each visit is different and special in its own way. At first you may think that it isn't much but to the children these visit are everything. Kythe also has various advocacy projects that non-members can also participate in from the Kythe Week campaign that takes place in the ADMU campus to the open for all external IamHope campaign.
Being a part of this organization will make you laugh and cry, you will have yourself constantly slapped in the face with reality, and despite how much you lose in the process what you gain will remain with you for a lifetime.
Also, you do not need to be a student at ADMU to participate in Kythe's advocacy. You can help out by visiting their website and donating, or by participating in their events. read more
