This service is such a lifesaver for when you're not near an airport and don't have the time to commute to a pickup location. The Kyte surfers are always very nice and punctual and the cars are always great. And the price is sometimes better than renting from any of the other rental companies who don't even deliver the car to you! Highly recommend! read more

I love Kyte!! Fast and efficient in a simplified way. I actually get the car I want with no headaches

Good experience Had some trouble registering a Singapore driving license Apart from that, a pleasant experience Will use them again read more

I booked two rentals one weekend after the other(both for a single day). The first car smelled like an entire foot to be honest. BUT my issue is that Kyte has two $500 holds on my account. cars were returned in great condition close to a month ago (for the first rental) yet they are claiming they released my deposits BUT my bank has evidence that no deposits have been released and if I go one more day....Kyte will charge the deposit and they get my $500. Kyte has not been helpful and they keep giving me a further date to expect my money or telling me to give the bank a STAN # to trace the transaction, something that no bank can use. If you rent from here expect to have your deposits taken from you and having to report fraud. I'm reporting that this company is a scam with the better business bureau and giving this review everywhere possible to help others. It's not easy right now and having a company rob you of $500 and another $500 is sickening and actually a real set back for me. $1000 total in deposits never returned and lied to over and over and over via their chat and phone lines. Scam...you might get the rental car, but....good luck getting your money back. read more

We love Kyte. No more paper works and time is the main reason we use again and again! We don't need to take Uber to enterprise to wait another half to pick up car and return again. Also if you want to change time, it's so easy, just text the surfer to extend your time. We have used Kyte for all our recent family trips from manhattan to update NY or NJ. We love it! read more

My last experience was absolutely awful. First surfer lied about being at my place and left early, bounced my calls. Looked all up and down the block for him. He picked up once and pretended he couldn't hear me. Second one (which they could only do 2 hours later) claimed to be there 10 minutes before but instead was 15 minutes late, leaving me waiting outside for 25 minutes. Next time I'll just go walk the 10 minutes to Avis and then return it whenever I feel like, thanks. EDIT: Wow look the business owner responded to my comment. I emailed and nobody responded again the past couple weeks. Thanks guys! read more

This is my 5th time renting from Kyte. The cars are brand new, they allow dogs and they will both pick up and deliver the car to your door! read more

!CONVENIENT! We were visiting New York for a long weekend but only needed a car for one day for a trip to both New Jersey and Manhattan - ride share was not an option nor was renting and parking a rental car ($$) for the entirety of our trip- Kyte came through- they delivered a clean fully fueled car to our Hotel and picked up the next morning as scheduled. They do an EXCELLENT job of communicating and the exchanges were quick and convenient. read more

Great experience. Cars were clean and reliable. Surfers were timely and helpful. Pricing was reasonable. Would definitely use again! Recommend! read more

Kyte, ugh, I love you, and I hate you. But my experience today just kind of tops it all, and I'm not sure if I can continue recommending or praising this company. But yet, 3 stars because when it all works, I'm pretty happy. When I found Kyte, it was a too good to be true situation, sort of. They'll deliver and pick up the car from my home? Amazing!! Their hours leave something to be desired, but so do the other major car rental services (looking at those guys who operate 9-5 during the week, close at 1 on Saturday, and don't open at all on Sunday! Who does that work for??). The issue with Kyte is that there's some sort of major disconnect within the company. On multiple instances, I've had difficult pick-ups. The app will tell me one thing, and then a call or text will come in telling me something else. And if you can find the phone number to get a customer service rep on the phone (go ahead, try and find their phone number), they'll tell you something else entirely! I was once told that the surfer was running late, and that I might have to keep the car overnight (this is a problem because I'm in NYC, so I'd have to either search for parking or pay to put it in a garage). Another time, I received a ticket for their expired inspection, and I had to fight to be relieved of the responsibility for this cost! Today, I was really regretting my choice to use Kyte, but in the end, they did come through and work for me. Talk about gaslighting. I had a reservation for 7am, which I booked well enough in advance, and at about 6am, they informed me through the app, that due to "a system error", they wouldn't be able to get me a car until 9am. I was using this rental for work and needed to drive 2 hours to get to a job site, so 9am wouldn't work, and I was risking my job with this flakey company. I was stuck and pleaded with customer service, who initially offered me a $10 credit for the inconvenience, and eventually, they offered me a full refund! But I was in a jam and just really needed this car. Finally, they told me a surfer was able to "rescue" my trip (thank you to Keisha and whoever's car I diverted!!), but the communication about when the car would come was really lacking. At that point, I had little trust in the company, and half expected that they'd keep moving the ETA until it was 9am (she'll be there between 7:10 and 7:15, no, 7:20, no 7:30....). Your driver is there (but they're not). It was a real rollercoaster, all before even starting my work day. But did they deliver? Yes!! Was the car as clean as usual? No. Was the gas tank mostly empty? Yes! Will they charge me to fill up the tank at their rate? Probably! Anyway. I'll probably use them again, but probably not for situations that aren't flexible, like work. Be warned. It's a good business model, but it's poorly executed. Oh, and the app is AWFUL! It has features that don't work, it randomly makes you sign in, then redirects to the website, and it's just not user-friendly. Kyte is like a flakey old friend who's given you little reason to keep the relationship alive, but you just love them too much to let them fade into oblivion. Are they reliable? No! Are they easy to get in touch with? No! When you can get in touch with them, is the communication clear? No! Do you trust them when they say they'll be there? Believe it when you see it. But when it all works out, wooo boy, it's a good time! read more

I used Kyte for the first time the past weekend. I was a little skeptical of this at first because I never used it before and I never heard of it until my mom sent me information about Kyte. I compared prices from Kyte to 5 other car rental companies and this was the most affordable one AND it included drop off and pick up so it was a really great deal for me. The drop off was easy and the Kyte Surfer, Ricky, made it smooth and I felt comfortable. The car was clean and the gas was full. I liked it a lot. Pick up was easy as well! I just had to hand over the key and make sure I didn't leave anything in the car. Kyte is really generous with the milage as well. Even though you don't get unlimited milage, you still get 300 miles per day and it's great because you don't have to worry. Also, advice for the readers...it's better if you re-fuel yourself because Kyte will double charge you! I will definitely be using Kyte in the future when I plan long distance/long vacations. read more

Kyte is terrific - I couldn't recommend it more highly. If I'm getting a rental car, I'll always try to use Kyte first. Great cars, easy service, no waiting in lines. read more

This is the THIRD rental I have done with Kyte. Pickups and drop offs were super smooth and easy. I was going to be late returning my car yesterday due to traffic, and the chat feature on the app put me in touch with a live "copilot" and they extended the time of my return to avoid a late charge. I have rented cars for 1 day through 21 days. Billing is transparent and there are no surprises. I highly recommend using Kyte car rental! :) read more

TL;DR: I left my wallet in the car and notified Kyte within 20 minutes. They made no attempt to return the wallet, lied, claiming saying they hadn't found it, and eventually made me come pick up my wallet a week later, after I filed a police report. Negative comments left on their Instagram were deleted by their team. Full story: 20 minutes after returning my rental I realized I left my wallet in the vehicle. I immediately attempted to contact customer service. Unable to reach anyone by phone, I was given a generic google form to fill out, and did so. To try and speed things along (it was my wallet after all) I texted the number I was from which receiving updates (i.e., delivery time, etc) and was connected with what I believed to be a customer service rep of some kind. What followed was a day long exchange where I waited on average 2 hrs for a response from the representative. I will quote some of the messages here: Me: " Hi sorry to bother again, is there any update? I would really like to get this back asap." Rep: " We'll reach out Eric~" I was eventually told that: " They checked in the middle of console. There was no wallet. We asked them if checked the floor and cup holder. We'll get back to you on their response." And later: " We're sorry. The car has already cleaned. The team found no wallet in the car." I then notified Kyte that I filed a police report, and began to replace my wallet. Fast forward exactly one week from the date of the incident and I received a text, " Hi there! We have confirmed your lost item is at our lot. Would you be able to pick it up from our lot this weekend?" Upon arriving at the lot, I spoke with the lot managers and the one returning the wallet to me commented "why did it take you so long? I found this wallet a week ago." Kyte mishandled this situation in every way. A few other important notes: During this process, my girlfriend and I decided to attempt to contact their social media in order to make some headway. After posting our situation on Instagram, we were met with a response asking us to DM them directly. Upon DMing we were met with a generic response and no further assistance. We raised this issue publicly again, i.e., commenting on their IG that we had DMed them and received no further help. That comment was promptly deleted by their social media team. Kyte is not transparent, nor helpful with customer service. They are inept at best and outright lying to their customers at worst. Do not use this service. read more

I am two rentals in and a big fan. The first time, my Surfer was an hour late delivery, which delayed our trip. The pickup was about 20 minutes late. But we got a credit from Kyte which was nice. The second time around was an incredibly smooth experience, and all times the Surfers have been outstanding in courtesy. read more

I had the most amazing first experience. The pickup location was located near my house. Picking up the car, the staff member was efficient, gave me a review of the car and notified me of the sprcual features. This was a newer vehicle, so i appreciate the factor thag the surfer took his time. I was in and out within 15 minutes, of pickingupthecar. I LOVE the 2 hour grace period, I ran into A LOT of traffic on the way home and wasn't stressed at all because I knew I had a 2 hour window. I will definitely use this servic e again, and would probably chose this over Turo. read more

Horrid experience. I'm convinced that the entire company is run by kids who have no idea what they're doing and that the place will soon implode. I've been renting cars for 20+ years. Think cable company customer service - then think worse. Much worse. e.g. 1. The car was filthy (mud, bird poop, bug splatter, etc in and outside); 2. they overbooked their cars, so they tried to cut short my trip and delay someone else's. Worse, they didn't even try to make amends for the inconvenience they caused. Like trying to reason with children. It's worth paying extra elsewhere to not deal with this. read more

The cars this company offers ARE NOT UP TO DATE on their documents, and you risk getting stopped and fined because of it. This makes them ILLEGAL to drive! Do not rent from them! The safety inspection was expired (I live in NYC, and you need this inspection to drive and park in the city, or you would get a ticket). I contacted customer support and explained my situation. They kept saying that the car was safe to drive and that if I got a ticket because of that I could open a dispute. I sent them the DMV website stating that cars must have a valid inspection sticker. The person talking to me was not even from the company and was no help. Their logic is that there was no problem unless I got stopped by the police. Complete scam! AVOID RENTING FROM THEM ! read more

Over the weekend I rented a car with Kyte and it was such a seamless experience, and CONSIDERABLY cheaper than other options like Turo and GetAround. This was my first time renting with Kyte and I already can't wait to do it again. Everything from the pick up to customer service to the app were 10/10. I highly recommend and the car we received was stunning and so clean. read more

Such a fan of Kyte. I live in NYC and my family is in Central Jersey; this is by far the best way for me to bring my dog with me on trips to visit them. Kyte - Lost items with Kyte will forever be lost. - Car Rental Near Me

I was so impressed with Kyte overall. I was hesitant to try something new, but the rate was lower than other places so I tried it. It was so easy. They will deliver the car to you or you can pick it up. I chose to pick up as the pick up was right on 57th and 11th and super easy to get to. The cars (I rented two) were both great. The Kyte surfers were really nice and accommodating. I was able to extend my rental multiple times with ease. The app is also super easy and I was able to chat quickly and effectively with agents about my questions. I am so very satisfied and recommend this company to everyone! Thank you, Kyte! read more

I rented a car over a holiday weekend which makes me queasy at best. Fortunately, everything worked out well as far as pick up and drop off without any issues. Doing any kind of car renting, sharing, or owning in this town is challenging. I get it. The convenience of Kyte sure beats commuting to Times Square to pick up a car. I did receive a mysterious and confusing text message saying that my surfer would arrive between 12:15pm and 12:30pm when I had scheduled a delivery for 2:30pm. I was happy when my surfer arrived at the scheduled time. read more

Trip from hell! First, the car was delivered dirty, with a crack in the windshield, and with white writing on the windshield obstructing the driver's view. I thought this was crazy and when I called to tell them.. they said they would offer a $15 credit for the future (which I didn't accept). About 15 minutes before the trip ended, I was texted that the 'surfer' would be delayed. That's fine, but I asked for an estimate because I didn't know if that meant 10 minutes or two hours.. so I could figure out what to do since parking in my neighborhood is a challenge. The customer service rep replied by explaining what ETA stands for (yes, really). Then.. I got a two minute notice that the person was arriving in two minutes and would only wait 8 minutes for me. THEN I got a call saying that was a mistake and they would be there in ten minutes. Handed off the car and just when I thought it was sorted, I got a text saying the fuel wasn't full and I would be charged. I ran outside, caught the surfer.. and asked to take a photo of the over-full fuel gauge. What a frustrating experience. Cannot recommend Kyte... unless you like waiting for hold for customer service multiple times a day and because left irritated and confused. This is more than start up kinks. These are serious business flaws. read more

I rented a car from these guys at Newark Airport, except it wasn't Newark Airport. It was at a paid parking lot for which they didn't have permission to use. When I came by to pick up my car, I was told by the parking lot attendant that they did not have permission. Moreover, the driver had been blocked in by a trucker who had legitimately used the lot. Finally, several truckers who were at the lot told the driver (err, surfer) that it was dangerous to park where he had. I requested to return the car to a safer location such as a hotel, but was told "sorry, that's not in our service area." So now I get the joy of the parking lot attendant scolding me for dropping off the car at the original illegitimate location. As for the car itself, it was well-equipped and in good condition. For that, I added a star, but while other companies have made effective use of online and shared economy, these guys have simply resorted to mobile enabled shady practices. read more

All my experiences were beyond amazing with Kyte. I hope I never have to rent from Budget again.

Kyte made car rental extremely convenient for me in Manhattan. Every time I used to rent a car before I had to go all the way to the car rental place, and Kyte allowed me to chill while my driver delivered the car on time to my door effortlessly. The car arrived in a good condition and the car delivery person was really nice. The pick up lady at the end of my trip even waited for us when we weren't able to make it on time due to traffic. The booking experience was also intuitive. The price is comparable to other car rental service, maybe a little bit more pricier if you really compare, but personally I am willing to pay a bit more in exchange for my own convenience. I do have one observation on the experience of picking up/handing over the car that can potentially make the experience even smoother and more trustworthy. When I was picking up the car, my driver took a photo of my drivers license with his phone (didn't seem to be through the app) probably for verification purpose, but that did caught me off guard considering it's my personal information that he's storing on his phone. And when the lady picked up the car at the end of my trip, there wasn't really an official verification process so that left me worried a bit if I handed over the car to the right person. Luckily there hasn't been any negative consequences, but I do think building a more formal and reliable verification process would greatly benefit the service moving forward to create trust with the customers. Overall, I am very satisfied with my experience with Kyte and will use the service again read more

It is easy to rent, the surfer delivers the car and you can wait at home. There is no other car rental company like this and I think it is an extremely innovative system. I am from Japan, and if there were such a rental car company in Japan, I would use it. There are some downsides. There are good surfers and unfriendly surfers. Some surfers are late sometimes. Also, I am not sure if this is a system problem or a surfer problem, but sometimes I get a message saying "The surfer has already arrived and will be waiting for you there for 10 minutes" even though the surfer is late and has not arrived yet. This seems to be the biggest improvement. If the surfer could not meet us within 10 minutes, he would leave. We felt the time limit was burdensome because we were given a time for the surfer to leave even though he had not even arrived. It would be better if those points were improved. I have high expectations. read more

The convenience of having the car delivered is truly amazing, and eliminates the waiting at traditional rental care companies as well as the frustrating searches for available cars through Zip, etc. Also, the cars are in great condition, and the prices are reasonable. One con: it would be nice if they had EZ pass on the cars. We had to pay cash tolls which take up a lot of time. read more

I've been using Kyte regularly since February - about 6 months and 6 trips so far. It's been amazing! The cars are clean and new. The "surfers" drop-off and pick-up on time and are genuinely nice. They seemed to really care about making sure Kyte was a good experience. The price is comparable to other rental cars, but with the huge added convenience of delivery. I've used cars for both day trips and long weekends, and have a car booked for a week coming up (for my sister's wedding!). I've actually been in touch with Kyte customer service a few times - always able to speak to a live person and get the issue resolved quickly. Once the gas was low when delivered, I took a photo of the gauge, texted it to them, and they quickly confirmed that I wouldn't be charged for a full tank. They've been a little late for 1 pick-up and 1 drop-off but communicated well and always arrived within 30 minutes of the scheduled time. I also really appreciate that I've been able to seamlessly extend my trip for a later return on the same day for free. There are 2 things I'd love to see Kyte improve/add-on. I'd pay for an option for larger cars that seat at least 6. I also have mixed feelings about the new option to add a tip for surfers. It's always nice to have the option to tip folks, but I'd rather have a guarantee from Kyte that everyone is appropriately paid and not having some of their pay based on the whims of all of us users. read more

I've used Kyte several times and found it to be very convenient and reliable. The surfers have shown up on time for both drop off and pick up. The cars have been very clean. The rates are extremely competitive, especially since they come to you. Not having to pay a surcharge for Kyte to refill is also a big advantage. I've recommended the service to friends who have also had good experiences. They've recently added some new vehicle classes which makes me hope they'll continue to expand and include additional luxury vehicles. read more

We can't tell you how much we love this service. We recently gave up our car because between parking, maintenance and insurance in nyc it was stupid. Had I know about Kyte sooner, we would have done it sooner. Kyte is a pleasure with free drop off and free return, plus the flexibility to change your schedule for these features. Cost is about the same as hertz or Avis so this is a no brainer. Staff is great and courteous too read more

I made a reservation on Kyte and got a text stating my driver's license needed to be verified at least 2 hours before the reservation. This is a terrible platform that was a complete waste of time. read more

Booked a trip and then had it auto cancelled because the app stated I didn't pass their verification requirements. I reviewed the requirements and don't meet any of the rejection criteria. When I sent an email to support to get more info, I got a vague response that provided no additional info or path to resolution. Just a k.thx.bye, that felt like an auto-generated response. It seems there are few actual people involved in this process and no way to get a hold of someone. read more

Whenever I had an emergency, Kyte "was there for me". The surfers are very kind and polite.

If you haven't rented a car from Kyte, you haven't experienced the softer side of car rental. Not having to go to a brick and mortar shop and wait on line only to find there are no cars. The entire process is on line, door to door service. No hassle. And the rates are totally reasonable. Our car was clean, ran smoothly and the gas tank was nearly full. They offer to fill it for you if you choose not to gas up before returning the car, but be warned, it's considerably more expensive to have them do it. Bottom line: This was my 2nd Kyte experience and I'm hooked. Try it. You won't be sorry. read more

I can't rave enough about Kyte. For jobs I am working on outside of Manhattan, it has been a game changer.
