She also connected us with many amazing resources; thanks to her extensive list of local classes and contacts, I was able to take some helpful infant-safety courses through a local organization and visit a wonderful pelvic-floor therapist to help me prepare for labor and postpartum recovery. Throughout my pregnancy, I had a lot of questions about different tests and procedures, such as the gestational diabetes test. Dara helped me mentally and physically prepare for every test and procedure that came up during my pregnancy. She also gave me a really thorough understanding of what to expect during my postpartum experience, which my obstetrician and nurses didn't even touch on at all until we were already recovering in the hospital with our newborn. Additionally, Dara's advice and support was really invaluable as I was first coming up with my birth plan and deciding what was important to my husband and I when it came to decisions surrounding labor and delivery. She took my suggestions and drafted a simple and clear birth plan I could take with me to the hospital. She works closely with the doctors, nurses and midwives at the local hospitals and birth centers and was able to help me express my desires for a low-intervention birth in a way that was respectful and to the point. When my birth plan needed to change partway through my labor at the hospital, Dara supported me through those changes and helped me feel positive about my birth experience even though it wasn't how I initially envisioned. We are from out of town and I came down to San Diego first as my husband had to finish work and it was very reassuring to have April and Joy as part of our birth team in case I went into labor earlier than expected. They were also very quick to respond to any questions/concerns that I had. The morning of my delivery my surges came in very quickly. My hope going into birth was to labor naturally at home as long as possible and remain open to getting an epidural once I was at the hospital and further along in active labor. She offered different suggestions for positions and comfort measures that made such a difference. We first learned about them at a Memorialcare Saddleback open house. We were not at all familiar with doula care and at first didn't understand, but now we cannot imagine giving birth without a doula (specifically one from Breezy Doula!). Upon reaching out, we filled out their online form then received such a warm, quick and thorough response from the doula director, Sarah. She gave us a list of doulas within their group that matched our preferences and budget. We ended up meeting with two amazing doulas and didn't need to interview more. It was such a tough decision as both doulas were super warm, responsive, knowledgeable, and experienced. We decided to move forward with Carla and picked the grand package! See the attached pic for the package offerings, I removed the pricing as it varies per doula and prices may have changed since I last received this. We've taken the spinning babies (1 day) and hypnobirthing classes (wednesdays for 5 weeks straight) with Bree in Laguna Hills. Such a great experience! We've learned SOO much. Bree is so passionate about birth and motherhood. She keeps the content easy to digest and informative, but is also very patient with the many questions we had. Also another point for all the yummy snacks she provides! I also really love how she brings in guest speakers (baby & maternity chiropractor, IBCLC, acupuncturist, etc.) So excited to give birth! The classes have really helped me feel prepared, debunked the common misconceptions around childbirth, and have removed the fear brought by unrealistic situations shown in movies or on TV.
