I sometimes think of what might have happened if I decided to take over my Father's business as well. I don't think I could have done as well. Instead, I ended up working for Big Oil in other ways. Those brief thoughts only really come to mind when I stop at Riverside Sinclair to gas up on my way through town. The main Station pretty much looks the same and still features a full service garage. Houseman Oil has also expanded up Central Avenue and I hear into one or more convenience stores. It's an impressive operation. The only lingering question that I have is why gasoline prices are exactly the same no matter where in Estherville or Spirit Lake I go? Is this one big gasoline pricing zone? And while I'm on this subject, it is kind of interesting that because of the ethanol content (and subsidy), premium is cheaper than regular in Iowa.

The food selection and the nice staff made up for the visit to get gas and snacks. I hope they fix the sink and maintain clean restrooms once the repairs are completed. The location is ideal if you need gas along the 90 freeway.

The workers are very nice and they do help when you ask a question. The outside of the gas station has one or two semi truck parking or at least you can park your semi truck There or you can fit it. Our annual Iowa vacations Kum and Go, and always too soon…read more... The name of this gasoline station & convenience store chain never ceases to get a rise out of my non-Iowa friends. And for some perverse reason, it reminds me of a famous line from Young Frankenstein - "Oh, you men are all alike. Seven or eight quick ones, and you're off with the boys! They also have branded merchandise, but this is one person that won't have a Kum and Go "Big Gulp" cup on his desk. Beyond this revelry, this chain does a lot of things right. The gasoline prices are competitive, the interior and bathrooms are clean, newspapers and fresh sweet rolls are available in the morning, employees are friendly and helpful, and there's a Red Box DVD machine ready for your rental pleasure. This particular Kum & Go is also a convenient refreshment stop for those walking or biking on the Iowa Lakes trail between Spirit Lake points South. And since I grew up in this greater Estherville/Okoboji area, the coincidental contacts with old friends or their relatives is often a pleasant surprise.

This Speedway was on the way to our recent Lunch at Bergen, as I looked at my gas gage at just the right time. The price was right (for the Midwest), but without the cheaper ethanol blend choices, which is maybe more of an Iowa thing. And we were in and out in no time.
