You never know what to expect when it comes to the unseen. Once I arrived at Valhalla funeral home…read moreto make arrangements for my brother, I found the funeral home clean and well maintained. The funeral director met me at the door, and the arrangements seemed fairly easy. They later took us to the grave to verify the plot and everything looked great to me. The trees were starting to bloom and I could see two members of the cemetery were planting flowers along a walking path. Everything looked good and actually manicured. Thank You Valhalla funeral home and cemetery for getting my brother buried like he wanted to be and for also finding the clergy my brother had written down to do the funeral. Thank You Travis

Both of my parents are buried here. My father in 2006 and my mother most recently. The once-…read morebeautiful facility is no more. And that hurts my already grieving heart more. From a funeral perspective, the staff were the gracious and gentle presence a family needs in their dark hours. The staff was attentive, ever present and accommodating to our needs. My only criticism is the failure to get mom's obituary to the local BND, despite our providing it more than 48 hours before her visitation. As the only daily paper in the metro East area, I find that unforgivable. Other papers were not published until after her internment, resulting in many people not knowing she passed until it was too late to pay their respects. I'd also suggest that the dependency on the Dignity funeral planner app not be the focal point of the meeting with the family to finalize arrangements. While I appreciate the need for a consistent process, hovering around a big screen to click-through the available options is akin to finalizing the order of a new car and diminishes the dignity of the need to finalize such details. And - be warned - the upsell on adjacent plots is both ill-timed AND inappropriate. The worst - and most sustained - grievance, however is the overall disrepair and neglected appearance of the facility and grounds. Their entrance sign needs to be repaired, as letters are all sun-worn, faded and peeling off. The landscaping - even around the main building entrance - is overgrown with weeds, eroded beds and overgrown plantings. I guess the old "make a good first impression" advice is lost on them. The grounds are deplorable. Headstones are sinking, overgrown with weeds and, at least for my parents' stone, suffering from the appearance it has been hit a few too many times by a lawn mower. The planting bed immediately in front of their plot has dead plantings and appears to not have been mulched for years. That is WHOLLY UNACCEPTABLE. Even after pointing it out to the staff, no attempt was made to even pull a few weeds and toss down some mulch to make the graveside service slightly more acceptable. The preparation for the internment left a large hole that more than one family member lost their footing against and slipped against Mom's casket as they paid final respects. I am thankful no one was injured and that the unthinkable was prevented. I pray staff pay attention to this post and make a sincere effort to up their game in maintaining the type of final resting place my parents invested in. Their memory deserves much, much better than this.

I came here for a visitation of a friend's relative. The grounds are gorgeous, very park like and…read moreserene. I parked in the back parking lot and went in to the chapel through the main entrance. There was an employee holding the door and available for any questions. This was a nice touch and they were friendly but also quiet and reserved as expected in a funeral home. The building was very clean and bright. They had a large coat hanging area and several quiet sitting areas outside of the chapel for those that need a break. They had clearly marked who was in each chapel along with a sign in book and memorial cards. In the chapel they had multiple seating types which was nice. The way they arranged the flowers and other gifts for the service was beautiful - the best I've seen. The only opportunities I saw here was it was difficult to understand where to park (there were multiple areas) and if there were more than one event on any day I don't know that there would be enough parking. There was only the one event this day I was there and both of the main parking lots were full...

After my mom was buried there grandma and mom's sister died and my grave was used, mom's sister is in the other one. I was looking recently and I saw that there is an area to bury the remains of people that preferred cremation. That made me very happy. I don't believe in cremation, but, some do.
