It is a family private collection and consists of artists mainly American with a collection of modern art, pop art and appropriated art. They have some nice pieces of work from Andy Warhol and others. We had a tour guide who was pretty useless and was not able to explain a lot about the art or the artist. Her English was also weak which made the communication harder. I would visit this gallery if this type of art is your thing. It's one of only four private family collections in Ulm that you can visit without prior appointment and it is attached to the city museum so you can see both on the same day.

This is a great stop for an hour or two while you are exploring Rothenburg! The museum houses an array of artifacts and replicas of torture decides and items used as punishment during medieval times. These items range from humiliating masks to torture chairs and finger presses, then up to a Iron Madden. There is also a lot to read and see on the justice system and rules that dictated crimes and punishments. All of it was very fascinating and there was a lot to learn. Some of our favorites were all the masks used to draw attention and humiliate an offended, such as one that whistled every time the wearer breathed, so everyone knew where they were. The plaques where in German with most having English translations below. Oh, and turns out you can bring your dog in as we found out with others walking around. They also have a great cafe after you are done in another building. This is a great stop for a hot chocolate or coffee and to try a mini schneeballen. Highly recommend adding this museum to your list while in Rothenberg!

You start in the basement and go down these steep and rather dim stairs. The lighting is a bit dim down there giving an overall eerie vibe to the place. I suppose that's intentional. Displays are well laid out and most of the plaques are in a German, English and Japanese. At the far end of the basement, there are stairs to get to the 2 floors above with more displays. The lighting is a bit better up there. There's a lot to look at so if you get tired, wooden benches are placed all around to take breaks. The WCs are also upstairs. Everything is informative and interesting. There's quite a bit of duplication. People have found so many ways to hurt each other throughout history. I also found it a bit depressing in contrast to the spirit of the Christmas market. Glad I went as it's a popular museum and recommended by friends who went but I won't be coming back.

After hearing about the treasures in a magnificent baroque palace very near our hotel, we decided…read moreto invest part of our Saturday in Augsburg there. The first disappointment was not being able to buy the tickets with our credit card - another sign that those in charge of some tourist attractions in Germany are still very provincial. We opted for the audio guide - a big mistake. Audio guides should be a help for visitors to see things they might miss, but this guide was full of names and dates without nearly enough info about the actual pictures we were looking at or the rooms we walked through. Too much of the art museum seemed to be in a state or renovation with poorly lit paintings in the gallery part and a weird kind of open heating system spewing out smoke in the monastery part attached to the palace. Distracted by all the oddities, we ended up missing one of the most famous paintings: Albrecht Dürer's portrait of Jakob Fugger, a very rich merchant from Augsburg's time in the limelight in the 16th century. Only from the outside could we appreciate the length of the structure with the palace-monastery extension taking up an entire big block. At least the rococo ballroom with its mirrors and gilt walls was impressive, maybe especially so since we were there alone on a brilliantly sunny Saturday in early February. At least we could imagine the room also impressing Marie Antoinette, who evidently danced here for the palace-warming party a few hundred years ago. After an hour, we'd seen the whole place but then had to wait for someone to open up the room where we had to leave our bags. The café seemed more a parody with the couple of small tables and very uncomfortable looking chairs in a room next to the bookstore/ticket office, so we chose instead to rest our feet and our ears in the sunshine outside gazing at the gardens, which themselves seemed somewhat modest for a magnificent baroque palace, but then we had lowered our expectations sufficiently by the end of our hour in the Schaetzlerpalais.

Tons of cars, motorcycles, and other transportation from Audi to see here. Bring your smartphone and headphones as there's an app with many tours you can walk through (or just pull up some audio/text description about any vehicle on demand). Great thought was put in to the creation of this museum and after your visit you can walk around the beautiful lake outside or take one of the walking paths which allow you to reflect on the information you obtained from the Documentation Center. They offer storage lockers for coats and bags as well as vending machines with cold beverages you can take on your walk around the lake.
