Excuse the very scary photo of my food - it was very brown but very excellent!!…read more You can get a hot, delicious, traditional meal here for the low low price of about €7-8. And the portion size is unreal. Easily could feed two people. They have a lot of traditional German options on the menu but I opted for the bratwurst with potatoes and sauerkraut. I ordered on Uber eats for pickup mainly because I was worried about the menu being overwhelming in person. Pickup was seamless and the food was packaged nicely. I tried to plate it in a somewhat elegant way and failed wildly. Despite it being the ugliest plate of food I've ever eaten, it was up there with the best in terms of taste. My only regret from my trip to Berlin is that I didn't go back to Domke on my last day. Really great diamond in the rough.

It's a butcher but they have amazing and affordable comfort foods like bludwurst (blood sausage) eisbien (pork knuckle), gulasch, bratwurst etc. i chose the eisbien and while it doesn't look so appetizing, it truly is! The potatoes and sauerkraut make it a huge meal, and at 9 euro you really can't find anything of this size and quality around. The mustard was honestly the best I've ever had and it's just an all around special place. I came at 3:30 pm with barely a line and one table left to sit outside (plenty inside) and by 4:30 it was empty. The food comes out in moments. I was still eating an hour later bc this plate is gigantic. Friendly service too. I don't speak German and the girl at the counter didn't speak English, but we made it work. Pointing, context and a smile go a long way!

I also tried nussecken (2.20 euro) for the first time for dessert and it was delicious! It's nutty and chocolatey with a soft crust. It's no secret that I love me a good Farmer's Market. This one is no exception…read more There are tons and tons of things to buy; my favourite is the produce stands. Compared to local shops, the fresh fruits and vegetables are much cheaper, and sometimes even better quality. A recent trip yielded avocados, pumpkin, and arugula, and that was a show of restraint. There's so much more to be had, including meats and cheeses, snacks from food stands, practical household items, fabrics and craft-y things, clothing and jewelry, and more. Check it! The one disadvantage is the tight quarters. I'm used to markets with rows and rows and plenty of space, and this one is just along the sidewalk. The side up against the water is particularly crowded, with stalls on either side, making it a bit of an annoyance to walk through all the people. The flow of the crowd is generally smooth, albeit slow-going, but every once in awhile you'll find the stallers, who stand directly in front of what you're interested in and spend five minutes discussing the pros and cons of buying it. If you know what you want to get, this is a perfect place to go. However, if you're looking for a leisurely experience spent strolling up and down the market, go somewhere else.

There are a few things I can always expect, like tofu, and peanut buter, and various sauces. But sometimes I need those harder-to-find items and they simply can't be found. Well, once I discovered Hao Cai Lei Asien-Supermarkt I've never looked back. Technically, I discovered it today, so our history is still short and sweet, but I can foresee going here often in the future to get what I need. The shelves are stocked with all kinds of sauces and marinades that are hot, sweet, or savory. There are plenty of types of seafood and other meat in the cold cases, and there are tons and tons of vegan and vegetarian mock meats. I found miso paste here (something which I couldn't find anywhere else) and there are plenty of other treats, such as Asian beverages and candies. They even have various Maneki Neko you can buy, as well as rice cookers, tea sets and more. Additionally, the prices here are relatively inexpensive - even less than most Asia shops I've been to yet. So if you're looking for the best variety and low prices, check this place out!

The woman behind the counter speaks Chinese and is very friendly and helpful. Hao Cai Lei carries a wide selection of Asian foods, drinks, spices, even homeware. They have a small fresh section (with vegetables like bok choy, Thai chilis, chives, enoki mushrooms) and an extensive frozen section (dumpling wrappers, frozen dumplings, Korean rice cakes, frozen shrimp, frozen calamari). They also have a wide array of sauces (soy sauces in different darknesses, hoisin sauce, etc) and noodles (udon, ramen, somen, soba, pho, all sorts of rice noodles). I also bought seaweed and sesame seeds here; I found sesame seeds rather hard to find in other German grocery stores. Hao Cai Lei also carries Ramune! They even sell chopsticks, bowls, dim sum containers, etc. Bottom line: fantastic selection of Asian foods in a convenient location, anything you have had trouble finding, you can probably find here.

Don't go here if you're a foreigner and don't speak German…read more I'm truly shocked how I was treated in this store today. The lady in the shop comes up to me and asks me if I want help. I then say yes please and tell her what I'm looking for. She looks at me in horror so I then ask politely "I'm so sorry, do you speak English?". She then said "yes I do, but it's so rude of you to just come in here and speak and not even ask me first if I speak English and you don't even say hello or thank you or anything!!!"-with this really mad voice. First of all, I did say hello, but she was busy w another costumer and maybe didn't hear me. Second I don't know what I would have said thank you to already at this point. But I was so surprised by her reaction I just said "ok, I think I will leave now". She then followed me to the door and said "This is Germany, we speak German here!" To which I replied "But I'm not from Germany, I would love to speak German but I don't yet" (I moved to Berlin 3weeks ago and don't know how that would even be humanly possible). She then tells me "then go learn German!", then she goes on and says a bunch of more rude and offensive things to me as I walk out of there. This left me really upset and sad because I was really hoping to become a regular and big customer at this store, also I've so far only been met by nice and encouraging germans so this was definitely a setback. Just want to mention that this was the older lady working in the store and I have been shopping three times at this store before but only from the younger one of the two and she's been super nice to me.
