Then the next day they start again and play the same songs they played the day before over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over... Remember those one hit wonders whose songs got played to death years ago? They're still going strong on KUIC! Hootie and the Blowfish? You got it! James Blunt? Sure why not! How about some Nickelback 20 times a day? Can't get enough of them! When I ask my coworker to change the station she switches it to KKIQ. Guess what? It's the SAME EFFING COMPANY with the SAME EFFING FORMAT! They play the SAME EFFING MUSIC! It's the equivalent of sonic diarhhea and it's driving me insane! MAKE IT STOP!

The VCS Radio Conservatory, under the creative guidance of Mr. Ralph Martin is the most amazing…read morestudent music and performing arts program in the state! Mr. Martin starts with new students as young as 3rd grade and inspires them to become the best musicians they can be. As a small school, all are welcome, and as soon as each musician progresses to the appropriate level they can join the VCS Radio Symphony which is an EXTRAORDINARY program where students play incredibly challenging music and even get to perform live scores to silent films. When they progress to Jazz, they expand there skills to composing, improvising, and creating their own styles. With Mr. Martin's mentorship, the kids learn not only music, but creativity, confidence, resilience, character and leadership! The Conservatory also integrates the radio and drama students with synergistic results that are well beyond what could be expected from such a small school. His programs have won numerous awards to include: John Drury Award High School Radio Awards, Downbeat Magazine's Student Music Award, and yearly Reno Jazz Festival Awards. My two children love working with Mr Martin and have flourished under his guidance.

Since one of my favorite radio stations went off the air, I was in search of a replacement. I happened upon this station playing some of the old 80's classics. An era I fondly remember. They advertise "lite rock & less talk" which aptly expresses their musical selections. My fickle push button finger has been migrating to this station frequently to hear what might be playing. And I have found that I've enjoyed listening from time to time. I think they play great back ground music that would be suitable for some businesses. It has now become one of my chosen stations for us old folks who are still young at heart!
