My previous experiences with them had been completely positive but that was with the previous owners - the Holt family. Under these new owners, the team provided attentive service and seemed to truly care but soon after the funeral, the owners resorted to rude and threatening phone calls. I honestly thought they had hired a collection agency! In the end, they made it perfectly clear that they were only interested in the money which as I mentioned can frequently take some time with complicated estates. If you are bereaved and grieving, then be warned and look for a service home with more integrity.

Connie and Diane…read more Precious Blood Cemetery is an imposing and massive cemetery. Located right on the Blackstone River, it has rolling hills and acres and acres of graves. Some of the graves are simple wooden crosses with hand written names and dates while others are huge and ponderous memorials that look like they would be at home in ancient Greece. Very impressive if somewhat pretentious. The cemetery stopped taking new arrivals in 1955 and that is the infamous year that the twin hurricanes, Connie and Diane, paid a visit. Between them the two hurricanes dropped almost 28 inches of rain in some places and caused historical flooding in many parts of New England. The Blackstone River couldn't contain the sudden onslaught of water and poured over it's banks. Right into the cemetery. Whole parts of the graveyard were washed away and caskets were said to be seen floating right down Main Street. Some of the caskets were never found and probably floated out to sea while others were broken open and the bodies tossed about. Attempts were made to replace the graves and put the right bodies in the right caskets but there wasn't time to be absolutely certain and some bodies undoubtedly ended up in the wrong caskets under the wrong gravestones. So it's said that on foggy, cold or moon lit nights an ethereal presence comes over the graveyard and the spirits walk around looking for their proper resting places. Many people have claimed to have seen and heard all kinds of spooky and supernal apparitions. I've never seen anything really unusual here but then ghosts don't like me. Precious Blood is a cool place to walk around and look at all the imposing and huge memorials. If you're lucky you might even see something that really shouldn't be there.

He even gestured silently to us in the church so that we knew all we had to do was look at him and he was right there to guide us. We know that this is what funeral directors do, but not all of them are as attentive. Craig guided us through our most difficult family time so carefully and thoughtfully that all the details fell perfectly into place. We were also impressed with the clear communication that transpired before, during, and after the entire process. Whenever we called (which was often), we received timely responses. He answered all of our questions - including ones that some consider 'taboo' to be curious about. Stones and trees…read more St. Paul's Cemetery is a graveyard built on a rolling series of hills. Not really high hills but enough so when you are walking around St Paul's you get a new view as you crest every hill or mound. St Paul's isn't an exceptionally old cemetery, the oldest graves I saw were from the early 1800s and many were much newer. In fact a whole section of the cemetery has exclusively recent arrivals. There is a very wide assortment of memorials and monuments, ranging from huge Celtic crosses and massive crypts to much more modest stones. Some wonderful old and spooky trees are scattered around that give the graveyard a pleasantly appropriate morbid appearance.

The administrator of the funeral home in Maine that we worked with went out of their way to tell me that John had been a pleasure to work with which was unexpected, but not surprising. The facility in Cumberland is beautiful with a unique image projection system and piano on site for use in the service, and John has resources for everything we needed. We are very grateful.

He failed to return phone calls from several members and would not open the doors before calling hours so that biological children and grandchildren could have a private viewing ahead of time. He failed to offer condolences or to recognize the pain of the biological family. I found his behavior to be totally unprofessional. I'm sure he could have found a way to satisfy the grief of both families if he had any people skills at all. Perhaps he does not recognize that estranged children can hurt even more than the step children the man raised in their place! Do Not use them when more than one family is involved. PS When I made an entry to the online guest book (which said that it would remain availed for several more weeks) the guest book was pulled immediately and my entry was never printed. All condolences were to the step family and the biological family was removed from the equation.
