¡Está muy bien!
In…read moreEnglish, La Casa De La Cerveza literally translates to "The House of Beer." I'll call it LCDLC.
I think the only reason I wanted to review this place is so that it stays on my Yelp and I can remember it forever -- and because I'd like to help other desperate souls living or visiting Spain find a good beer. I have to mention first that I am NOT a beer person, but a year or so ago my boyfriend introduced me to Belgian beer. I've been hooked since.
I've been in Spain for almost seven months now (país del vino!) and haven't really had a great beer, except for two months ago when I had a chance to try some Allagash again. So delicious! Anyway, let me tell you a little story. I went to this Irish bar, Dubliners, in Madrid for Saint Patrick's Day and somehow the conversation with the waiter ended in Belgian beer. Dubliners didn't have any, but the good Samaritan of our server told us about a bar he knows. He suggested LCDLC.
He didn't even know the actual name of the bar; in fact, he even thought that LCDLC was another Irish bar (it's rather international). He just told us the name of the metro (subway) we needed to take or walk to and search from there. So, imagine my boyfriend and I walking aimlessly, I guess you can say. After approximately 25 minutes, we arrived at Metro Bilbao and asked for "an Irish bar" in the area. They directed us towards an Irish dive bar (with horrible customer service, BTW) and we couldn't believe we walked almost 30 minutes for that. I just wanted to go back to Dubliners and kill that guy. But then I remembered he mentioned "Luchana" street.
LCDLC was RIGHT by Metro Bilbao on Calle de Luchana, like the guy had said. There was nothing Irish about the look of the place -- it sort of reminded me of The Prohibition Taproom in Philadelphia and Kildare's -- but the variety of beers displayed by the windows confirmed it was the bar we were looking for.
The beer menus is INTENSE, irresistible even to a non-beer lover like myself. We got there at about 4:30 pm and left at 7:00pm approximately. They also serve food (didn't have any though, so don't know what it's like). The servers were helpful and the bathroom were clean. That's always a plus.
So yeah, I had some amazing Belgian beer. Definitely going back soon. :-)
Note: to get to LCDLC from Atocha or Puerta del Sol, take the blue Line 1 to Piñar de Chamartín and get off at Metro Bilbao.
