This is one of the oldest and famous hotels in Sandnes. It is a lovely establishment that offers both rooms with an Old World Norwegian feel as well as a copious Sunday Buffet that serves a vast array of Norwegian traditional dishes. Many couples choose to have wedding receptions here because of the ambience and food.
In the animal protein section, there were crepes with bacon, poached salmon with dill sauce, meatball on a skewer, roast chicken on the bone, sliced pork loin with accompanying brown sauce and lingonberry jam. The salmon and chicken were my favorite; the chicken was very moist and tender (fell off the bone) and the salmon had a delicate flavor. The pork was too dry and bland for me and the meatball was not the best I have eaten locally. I did not try the crepe.
In the charcuterie section, there was prosciutto, smoked salmon, cold smoked salmon, lox and cream cheese bruschetta, sliced brie, gouda, bleu cheeses.
There was a green salad, coleslaw, roasted potatoes for vegetables.
There were scrambled eggs for those treating the buffet as a brunch versus dinner. Fresh sliced bread for toast, jam, cheese, etc.
For dessert, there was an array of cakes. Carrot cake (which to me tasted like a spice cake), cheesecake with raspberry coulis, a fudgy and dense chocolate cake, biscotti, cognac-infused whipped cream.
Coffee and tea are included. Soft drinks, wine, and fresh local juices are extra.
Service at the table is efficient and excellent.
It's roughly $53US per person (a little less if a child between 10-12, free for young children). As far as meal prices in Norway go, you get a lot of bang for your buck.
I highly recommend this as a place to stay and dine. read more
