After hearing the price, I went into a little bit of a shock as I've never paid what I was quoted for getting my hair done. So, I told her what I wanted and decided I would trust her completely. One of the best decisions I've made for my hair. I told her I was open. And, she still included me in the plan, asked permission, explained the process, was very professional, and thought of EVERYTHING a client may want or need to feel comfortable and taken care of. My hair feels healthier than it has in years. It was the perfect length for what I needed (all the dead gone and functional for working out in hot weather). Kristen has been my hair stylist for several years. She is a true hair artist and I always get so many compliments on my hair. Without fail, at least 2 to 3 a month. We recently decided to grow it out a bit and I love it. Since I normally work from home, I'm out less and less however, this morning, I stopped in for coffee and received a compliment from the barista. On my way home, I was running to pick up dinner, at my local strip mall restaurant, and I noticed a woman looking at me like she knew me. I simply nodded at her and went in. Had an appointment with Kristen today! I was a new client to her, coming in with my last cut being approximately 2 years ago! My hair was long, dry, damaged, my poor curls barely hanging on. First!! Let me say - Kristen is extremely thorough! I've had 3 other curly cuts prior by three other professionals. She's the only one who reached out prior to my appointment to ask about my concerns, inspo pics as well as current and past pics of my hair, what products I like and what my goals are. Not only did she reach out requesting all of this info before hand - but she also remembered this info at our appointment time today! Which tells me she took the time to actually read it. Her office/salon space is so cute/clean/welcoming. I arrived about 10 min late (SORRY!!) but she was super understanding and very sweet and accommodating. Once in the chair she got right to work. I don't know where to begin describing Kristen's incredible demeanor, patience, communication, and meticulousness, but, basically, Kristen is a beautiful person who makes you, and your every curl, feel immensely important as she works her magic rejuvenating and enhancing your mane. I really love how Kristen asks lots of questions and genuinely welcomes all your tedious hair woes! Kristen also gave me lots of great tips to maintain the shiny bouncy curls she painstakingly sculpted. In the past I had only received wet hair cuts, where a straight cut is stamped on my curly hair - they blow it out straight, and then I wonder what it will look like once I wash and air dry it. Completely disappointed and devastated on how my hair came out. I provided three example photos of how I wanted my hair cut it, which is how it was cut previously. I came with long hair and noted I did not want short hair or short thick bangs. I left with hair that looks like a bowl, barely grazes, my neck, short chunky bangs, that stick straight out. Prior to finding Kristen I was at my wits end with my hair. My ends were dry, sparse and stringy with no shape. My color was over processed with evidence of breakage. I did a search on Instagram for curly hair specialists as I began to realize my hair was delicate and people were treating it as if it were straight hair. I really felt hopeless. We had recently moved ( active duty navy) and it was a year into covid. After scrolling through Kristen's feed of "before and after" photos I felt hopeful that she may be what I needed all along in a stylist. I have fine wavy/curly hair. I believe that many stylists/colorists do not have the added skill of really knowing curly hair. At my first appointment it was no shock to me that she needed to cut some length off. I asked her to trim just enough to make a difference but also to save any length she could. She listened to me. I walked out a few hours later with healthy looking curly hair. It was night and day. I have been a loyal client of Kristen since 2005 and consider her a dear friend. I look forward to our appointments, because we have such a great time talking about everything ranging from pop culture to world affairs to our families. But if having a congenial relationship with your stylist isn't a high priority, let me sing her technical praises as well. She is a master of cut and color -- an artist keen on perfection. She is also incredibly kind and humble. I have thick, straight, healthy hair and let her do whatever she wants. She always asks, "So what are we doing today?" I always reply, "Whatever you feel like." She grins and goes to town. I am never disappointed. My hair started turning white when I was 18. Because I have this German-Irish-English complexion that one might liken to something between "chalk" and "corpse," I cannot pull off white hair, so I've been coloring it for a looooong time. Kristen labors over every strand, artfully weaving complementary shades into my natural color, so that I never develop a 'crown of white' on regrowth. (And by the by if I were ever to take up drag, I'm calling dibs on Crowna White as my name.) Nobody ever notices that my hair is colored, even though I am completely open about it. "It looks so natural!" "I would have never guessed!" "It's gorgeous!" are the constant refrains. Yeah, she markets herself as a curl specialist--and being a woman with stunning, curling locks herself--she totally is, but she is a top-tier colorist as well. The selfish part of me doesn't really want her to have more clients, because I sometimes need last-minute appointments due to my job that cannot be made because she is already booked. I had a really bad haircut experience a few years ago and I've had such a hard time finding someone who knows how to cut my hair. Kristen is extremely knowledgeable with all types of curly hair. I'm a 3B. It's been a few weeks now since I had my haircut with Kristen and I've had so many compliments. I knew we were off to a good start when shortly after scheduling my appointment, she emailed me with steps I should take prior to my visit. She cut my hair dry and with no products in my hair. Then she washed my hair and did a K18 treatment. Finally, she put products in my hair and styled it, then did an "edit cut" or what I like to think of as a refinement cut (I thought I was a perfectionist). She did not rush through the process. I've been with Kristen since about two years after I moved to LA, so since 2010. I've moved all over the city far away from the valley but I still make the trek to wherever she is because she is fantastic. She is amazing at taking the idea for color or cut you may bring in and adjusting it to what would look best for you (without being a jerk about it) and she really truly cares about you and your hair. It's great to support small businesses but it's even better when that small business is run by a good person. You should definitely give her a try. Oh and I don't have curly hair.
