Great place to begin your journey into Krav Maga! Gaby is an amazing instructor and works well with all skill levels along with his instructors. It is very welcoming and filled excellent members! You will love the good vibe and life skills training!! read more

I had a wonderful time meeting a wide array of age groups and fighters across multiple levels from beginner to expert. Gabi the owner is a supportive and insure conscious instructor with a wealth of knowledge and the skills to demonstrate them in clear and concise ways. Love all other instructors as well. Very welcoming place with the intention to team building end empowering the individual. read more

I love the environment and personnel. There's a lot to learn, so I dived in. Try it, you'll love it.

After a few upsetting situations at our Middle School with chronic bullying, I figured the only way our son could break the cycle would be to learn self-defense. I had heard of Krav Maga and knew this would alleviate my fears for him. I discovered this amazing family-run business and I'm satisfied thus far. Gaby and his son...the owners, are very welcoming and immediately offered my son and daughter a private lesson. The class so far has given them a boost of confidence as well as skills to protect themselves if need be. Unlike Tae Kwon Do, they can utilize these skills in real-life situations to mitigate an attack either on themselves or their friends. I'm considering doing it myself. It's a great workout! read more

TL;DR they will kick your butt, but they will teach YOU to kick butt!! I went to a free intro class that my friend told me about, and I'm so glad she did. In 1.5 hours, I learned a lot of basic practical self defense skills. Of course, this was only the very very intro class so don't expect to learn everything. I highly recommend trying out Krava Maga if you're at all interested. Based on their website, they have 2 free classes for new peeps. If I had more time, I'd definitely join Krava Maga Xtreme! read more

Took my very first classes with Gaby and learned so much! Krav Maga provides very practical strategies for self-defense. I found particularly helpful as a woman. In the very first class, Gaby taught us some basic defense that was remarkably effective at breaking away from various holds of an attacker. I also learned to appreciate the philosophy of Krav Maga which espouses de-escalation of conflict, not escalation. I will definitely be taking more classes! read more

This Place is amazing! My two boys, ages 10 and 12, love the class. The team is super friendly and good with what they do. As a parent it makes me feel good to know that my kids learn how to defend themselves and at the same time have fun. And on top of it it's affordable. Highly recommend this place for kids and adults read more

Excellent program - efficient teaching of useful skills, and a friendly environment. You should believe the other positive reviews that you read about Krav Maga in Albany. Gaby, the owner sets the tone with a welcoming personality, knowledge and encouragement. His instructors all seem to follow through on this. I came here after my teenage son had a bad experience at another martial arts program, and he felt great after his time at Krav Maga. I will be sending some of my other kids also. read more

I've always wanted to join Krav Maga ever since I found out that it was the training provided to Matt Damon for the Bourne Identity. I know... I'm the queen of procrastination. I got distracted by wine tasting (LOL!), trapeze work, basketball, lazing around and yoga. I love all the instructors because they focus on doing the right technique then go on to explain WHY you do the right technique. Everyone learns differently. Benny paints a picture in your mind so you remember. Kayla teaches in a way that creates muscle memory. Gaby gives you extra pointers to help you out. Every instructor is just super helpful. After my 2 free classes to check it out, I can say after 6 months, I'm still interested in it (beats the boring gym where you learn nothing) and the confidence I feel knowing I will no longer freeze (fight, flight or freeze) is essential. I know I can do something about it is such a good feeling. One of the things they teach you is to scan your surroundings. I've been doing that most times ever since I was taught and I was able to get away from a man. I didn't have to hurt him :) I also enjoy the Ground Tactics class cuz it teaches you how to get out of possible scenarios. For example, you got pushed to the ground and the attacker is choking you while sitting on you, what do you do? Don't get me wrong, Krav Maga does that too. There are moves in Krav that we use in Ground Tactics. I'm looking forward to other classes in the higher levels where they teach you how to defend yourself from knives, guns and sticks! So don't be a queen of procrastination like me and learn something your body will remember forever. Your body and mind will thank you. Most likely save your life or someone else's. BTW, I used to do sit-ups all the time with no results. Now I have those lines on the sides of my tummy. Well, it's there if I'm not bloated with beer, haha. Now, if only Krav can stop me from eating chocolate ;) read more

Tired of going to the gym and toiling away for 30-60 minutes on the elliptical or treadmill? And then leaving without having spoken to a single soul? I never worked out because I didn't need another boring chore to do. At Krav Maga Xtreme, I found a place with talented instructors and a friendly community atmosphere. The classes are tough and effective, and surprisingly fun for the amount of work you do! People of any conditioning level can participate. Plus, it's never boring, because of the variety of krav and fitness classes offered. I joined KMX just over a year ago, and because I liked being there, I actually went. After 6 months of doing mostly the krav level one class, I lost over 40 pounds (yes, I did make changes to my eating habits too). Now I mix it up more with cardio, kettlebell, and the odd grappling session. I've kept the weight off and I'm in the best shape ever. I have noticeable improvement in my performance when I swim laps or go out hiking, or just...carrying in the groceries! June: Unfortunately, lately the quality of instructors has declined, so much so that I probably will be looking for a new gym. None of the best, certified Krav instructors have stayed since the split from KMI. read more

I've only taken two classes, and barely signed up, but I think this review will be helpful for other people like me who have never taken a martial arts course at all, let alone Krav Maga. I wanted a place where my daughter could get some training and conditioning to boost her confidence and ability to handle the depressing number of grabby jerks who infest the world. She's 14 and tiny, I'm pushing 60, and as un-athletic a wimp as they come. I'd heard that Krav was good at adjusting to each individual's abilities, so I took the two intro classes with my kid. We got a tour of the facility, which is really quite nice, and then joined a P1 (beginning level) class for what amounts to half an hour of crazy cardio followed by half an hour of practice. At the end we separate into groups and everybody gets a turn at fending off multiple attackers. Our instructor was the owner, Gabby. He pushed us, but also made sure I didn't overdo it. (My big takeaway from the first day was to pace myself.) Krav turns out to be EXACTLY what I was looking for. No "Eastern philosophy" BS, no pseudo-scientific blather about "Chi" or "Energy", just conditioning and training that is practical and effective. In only two classes I already have several ways to break a choke hold, stun the heck out of an opponent, and run away. The only ritual is at the start and end of class. We all bow and say "kida" (Hebrew for "bow") as a sign of respect. That's it. I've saved the best for last: Everybody in the class is incredibly patient and supportive of us n00bs. Both my daughter and I had the experience of fellow students slowing down to demonstrate things for us, helping us through several moves, and cheering us on with things like, "Hey, a couple of year ago, I was you." One of the most helpful was a guy who could doubtless snap me in half like a twig. There is just no sense of intimidation anywhere. The atmosphere is quite unlike a gym full of jocks. It's more like aggressive play time. Have you ever released your tension by punching a pillow? Imagine that times eleven. We signed up as members. They recommend coming to at least two, preferably three classes per week. The calendar has at least one P1 every day, with two most days, so it's pretty easy to schedule in. Hey, people with a serious Starbucks habit probably spend this much money on overpriced beverages, and you can't defend yourself very well with a Caramel Macchiato. Fair warning to the above-mentioned grabby jerks: I hope you like pain. "Krav Maga: We do bad things to bad people." read more

Sending an enthusiastic review. In case you don't know, this Krav Maga training facility used to operate under a different name, right here at the same Berkeley address. There were two owners of the gym, and in early 2013 they decided to dissolve the partnership and each run their own gym. One kept the name and moved to San Francisco, and the other continues in the same space under a new name "Krav Maga Xtreme." I tell you this because I think it's important to know that these gyms have roots going back to about 2006, and both of these gyms are excellent. I take KM classes at the Marinwood Community Center in San Rafael, which is a satellite branch of KMX. I am a first year student. My main teacher is Jacob. I have also trained under Gaby and I took a "First Responder's" workshop under James. I'd grade each of these teachers excellent. No ego issues. Just good solid training. At San Rafael, you will get a very good half hour boot-camp style workout, which involves usually involves the stuff you hate: jogging, situps. pushups, bear crawling, high intensity sprinting, burpees, which is also the stuff I'm very glad is in the schedule. Then you will get another half hour of krav maga techniques and practice. KM is very intelligently put together. I recommend you read up a bit on it to enhance your experience. First timers please pace yourselves. It is very easy to get too tired and frustrated and then not want to come back. But you do get stronger, and your body starts to tone up before too long. I started my KM training here at Marinwood a few months ago. I am really enjoying the program. There is a nice bunch of students there. The class has mostly guys, sometimes gals, and often beginners. It's a supportive respectful environment. No bad types, in my experience. Recommended. P.S. Newbies, you must pace yourself thru your first few workouts. They will not baby you, but they will understand if your "do as much as you can" is less than the rest of the class. I came "off the couch" and take one class a week, and I am very satisfied with this experience. read more

I've been with this place for approximately a year and it is awesome! The staff is super friendly and fun, but they'll make you work your butt off. They also have a small gym if you want to work out by yourself after or before classes, and they have a bathroom with showers and changing rooms if you need it! Overall my experience here has been overwhelmingly positive, tough, and fun. So if you're really looking for a place where you can get fit, learn how practical self-defense techniques, and have fun, then Krav Maga Xtreme is seriously the best place for you. read more

I am posting this on behalf of my daughter Coco who goes to Krav Maga several times a week. "I'm 15 years old and recently started doing krav maga. I love it! At first I was nervous and didn't know what to expect but the atmosphere is so inviting and fun. The classes are always a little different but reintroduce the same skills. It's a great work out and the instructors are all very good. As a young woman I definitely feel safer and more confident knowing I can defend myself if I needed to. If your thinking about doing krav maga definitely try it!" - Coco read more

This place is awesome. They offer free initial self defense classes for women. My 15yr son takes their coed adult classes (after graduating from their youth classes). I love that they have both male and female instructors. They even have special low light self-defense classes for defending yourself in low light settings. Their classes offer a great exercise and also actionable skills. read more

Krav Maga Xtreme - Martial Arts Near Me - Richmond, California

I LOVE THIS PLACE SO HARD. I cannot recommend it highly enough. I was curious about martial arts for many years but never made the time to pick one and train. But after the election last year, I realized I wanted know how to defend myself, and others too, in case it became necessary. I came to KM Extreme because a good friend's son comes here for the youth classes and OH MY GOD I LOVE IT. The owner and all the instructors are friendly, helpful and dedicated, and I've found the students to be the same. The atmosphere is supportive and collaborative, not competitive at all. There are instructors and students of all genders and ethnic backgrounds, and it feels great to be part of a community that's so diverse and welcoming. The bathrooms and changing rooms are non-gendered. Krav Maga is very practical, and the approach they use here allows you to pick up skills very quickly. I'm not only competent in defending myself, but I'm in way better shape than I was when I started because of their emphasis on fitness. The sign on their building says "Self-Defense - Fitness - Community" and KM Extreme is knocking it out of the park on all three. =D read more

Fantastic place both to stay fit and to learn Krav Maga! They have a large range of classes designed to get you in shape, as well as Krav Maga classes. The instructors provide high-quality training and always push you to give it all! I have had some amazing workouts there, and good laughs!! The atmosphere is really laid back, the community is extremely friendly, and the instructors/staff have a good sense of humor! So, if you want to learn how to kick ass, this is definitely the place for you. I never had any combat sport experience before, and I felt like Krav Maga was the right choice. Indeed, it is a wonderful blend of different martial art techniques designed to the utmost efficiency. The instructors know how to immerse you in different situations mimicking real-life experiences, and teach you the spirit of Krav Maga: control your emotions, de-escalate, defend, scan, and leave... Kida! read more

If your looking to get in the best shape of your life, have fun, and learn to defend yourself....THIS IS THE PLACE. I have been with Krav Maga Xtreme for almost 3 years and I can tell you that it is addicting and life changing. I highly recommend that anyone who is interested in self defense and getting in shape to come check out Krav Maga Xtreme- this place is amazing and everyone is friendly and helpful. No macho alpha male BS to deal with here - everyone is super supportive and helps push each other to be the best we can be in order to survive real world situations. Since I started training at KMX around 6 months ago I've lost a bunch of weight, gained confidence and am more fit than I ever have been in my adult life. I went from a lazy couch potato to training at as many as 10 classes a week because it is so much fun!! I could never go to a regular gym and pump iron - soooooo boring! KMX will keep you engaged the entire time because the classes are actually fun! But if you do want to pump iron, you can do that at KMX as well as there is a variety of machines. All of the instructors are very knowledgable and helpful. They will take the time to make sure you fully understand any questions you may have. Come down and check it out, there's a 2 week free trial with no commitment at all. Just sign a waiver and jump into a class. Becoming a part of the KMX family was one of the best decisions I've ever made. My only regret is that I didn't check it out sooner!! If you're reading this review, stop now - and call/email KMX and get started, you won't regret it read more

Krav Maga Xtreme is hands down one of the best places you can go to for a myriad of reasons: to get fit, to learn ACTUAL self-defense (no honor-based bullshit - you'll actually learn how to defend yourself in real-life situations), to meet great like-minded people, and more. I originally joined for their Krav Maga classes but explored their offerings over a period of time and found all of them to be extremely fun. So far, I've tried grappling, boxing, cross training and cardio combat outside of Krav Maga and they have all been extremely well-taught. The instructors here are nothing short of amazing. I've been taught by at least eight different people and the consistency in quality among each is astounding. I still remember the first time I came: Gaby noticed that I was new and introduced himself. Then, you just jump into the class - no one will treat you like a newbie and everyone is willing to help you out. There are no uniforms - everyone goes in their street clothes and as long as you have a clean pair of exercise shoes, you're fine. Trust me when I say that this will be one of the best experiences of your life and if you're still hesitant, just show up and try it out - KMX definitely has trial options. read more

The same great location now with a different heart! The future should be bright Gabby!! 07/14/15- New location.

On guard! Totally practical, easy to learn, and fun, this studio teaches me techniques I would ACTUALLY use in the fight. Although one of the exercises at the beginning of class is to tap someone's knees, head, shoulders, or other "appropriate" body part, I WILL ONLY do that to an attacker half my height. There is so much that I want to say about this place that I'd rather just let you experience yourself. But I will say that I really enjoy the sense of community, the laughter, and togetherness with people you may never see again. The instructors and staff teach from such a humble position that they deserve mad respect. Compared to other martial arts studios, they don't treat you like an ignorant or naive child. 5 stars! BTW, the exercises will WORK you so be prepared to sweat. However, be prepared for the cold temperature and the annoying punching bag from whomever is punching it next door. It's as annoying as that experience in your childhood when your siblings flicked your forehead. WTF! STOP!! read more

I took a free Krav Maga class 1 month ago. The teachers were respectful and listened. They had great teaching skills and had national accreditations. The studio looks great and I will definitely come this week to sign in for lessons read more

I've been coming to this gym for a year now. I had to change my routine from basic gym workout and spending two hours waiting for equipment to be available. This offers an intense 1 hour workout, in each of the various levels and classes that they provide. I receive strength training along with applicable real life defense training all combined in one thorough cardio workout. Ive learned to become proactive in my surroundings and how to avoid potentially dangerous situations. The gym environment is friendly, and the overall intention is for everyone to grow and develop. Awesome instructors, and a really great gym owner, make the entire experience truly inviting. read more

I've been training here for almost 3 years. Forever I mostly played soccer for exercise and realized that, while my legs were strong, the rest of my body was like a mushy bowl of weakling spaghetti. I began the search for a more complete workout, but I hate working out just for the sake of working out. There has to be a goal....something fun...but also practical....martial arts! I'm not exercising, I'm learning how to KILL people (or, ya know, defend myself as a last resort or whatever). UFC is fun to watch, and those guys are in great shape, so I started looking into MMA gyms. But after browsing MMA gym websites, I remembered something: UFC fighters are also douche bags. Training with a bunch of men with tribal tattoos, inferiority complexes, and 'roid rage did NOT sound appealing. Having just been to Israel I thought, "Maybe Krav Maga." I went in for a trial class and the instructor handed us rubber knives and asked us to chase each other around and attempt to stab each other in the back. Not spry enough? You get stabbed. I couldn't give them my credit card number fast enough. Three years later I'm still having fun and learning so much in a positive, diverse community of all skill-levels with some of the most varied and challenging classes I could hope for. All the instructors are top-notch and owner Gaby always has a smile for you walking through the door. Dude could kill you, but you wouldn't mind much cuz he's so awesome. Noodle arms? Train here. You won't be a weakling for long. read more

As a college student, I was advised by many people that I should take up some sort of self-defense. Having heard many positive things about Krav Maga, my roommate and I decided to give a class a shot a couple of months ago. Understandably, we were both intimidated by our first P1 (beginner level) class but our experience warranted us to purchase monthly memberships. There's a student discount for unlimited monthly membership that I feel, with consistent attendance, pays off. Gaby, the owner, is incredibly friendly and knowledgable about Krav Maga. He runs a really great establishment that is reflected in the top-notch quality instructors who lead the different classes. In the past months that I've been going here regularly, I sincerely feel that I've gained so much more skill in and understanding of Krav Maga and the benefits the practice provides. Besides teaching the utilitarian techniques to get a person out of sticky situations in everyday life, Krav Maga also helps a person develop and improve upon his situational awareness, which is so valuable yet often overlooked. The atmosphere of KMX is much more relaxed that someone would assume. This doesn't mean that the people here don't train hard. It means that there is a supportive community of peers that don't foster unhealthy competition amongst each other. There is a lot of diversity in the demographic and I feel any person would enjoy their time here. Besides Krav Maga, I've also tried the grappling and fitness classes. I definitely recommend grappling classes because they are just another component in groundwork defenses. As for the for the fitness classes, there is a good variety of cardio and strength training exercises that I guarantee will work up a sweat. TL;dr - KMX is a wonderful place! I recommend this place to anyone looking to learn an array of skills necessary to protecting oneself, to get a good workout, and to meet an awesome community of people :) read more

I joined Krav Maga Xtreme this past December with the goal of improving my endurance, core and flexibility while learning a practical martial art. All goals have been achieved thanks to a group of well informed instructors. I was a bit concerned that I would lose strength gained from all my years of weight training but thanks to classes like TRX, cross training and kettle bells I have found I've gained strength in muscles I never knew existed. The combat cardio class is helping me with striking and footwork while the yoga class has done wonders for my flexibility. This experience has been so life altering that I've recently moved to Berkeley from Walnut Creek just to be closer to the gym. This is far better than any hamster on a wheel workout and much more affordable than any personal trainer. If you are looking to get in shape and learn a bad ass martial art, this is as good as it gets! read more

I started coming to this place in January, 2013. This is a one stop place for a total workout. I've been going to different gyms and parks and what I like about Krav Maga Xtreme is that you get the physical workout plus the skill. I had to always chose between one, but not any more. Gaby, Cal, Erin, Jeff, Jacob, Mary Lee and Jason give you the whole package. Every instructor has their own style and that's fantastic. You feel like you want to burn some calories, do a cardio or TRX class. You want to strengthen your core, do a kettle bell class. You want to learn how to defense against a knife, a gun or just any threat out there, do the Krav Maga classes. Very practical, straight to the point and effective training. I love every practice. read more

If you are looking for a convivial place to exercise, train or learn self defense, this is IT ! I particularly appreciate that, in this particular club, there are no felt hierarchy, no ritual, no exotic garb or strict rules. Although I trained in various groups more or less influenced by Asia, I do enjoy the completely "Western" feel of this place. You can choose to do hard or light work and good humor is totally allowed if you feel for it ! This is also a place where there is no competition: one works with one's (occasionally limited) potentials. Whether you are tired, slow or fast learner, if you wish to improve, it will start with you and all the instructors will kindly support you. In my view it is an ideal (and lively) place because it includes friends of all strength , gender and ages (from quite a few teenagers to a few elders like me --I am 69 ). One of the beauty of Krav Maga ( and I have a limited view of it since I only practiced here for 3 months) is its directness and short moves: no (lengthy) combination of movements (Forms or Katas), just a vast number of ways to defend yourself. And If you are in awe with what the body can do, as I am, and if there is not enough with your choices between the conditioning or cardio and Krav maga sessions, you can take a bi-weekly classes in Brazilian Jujitsu ( ground tactics). It is an ideal place, because you can choose to be either relax or intense. You can train every day of the week, use the free gym, talk to the head instructor, Gaby, for however long you wish, and all that for a fee that seems to me a generous deal. The first two sessions are free so it is hard to make a bad choice !! read more

Holy shit, where do I even start.... So I've been going to this place since I was about 13 - roughly 5 years. Since then, I've seen myself transform entirely. I've put on weight in muscle, I'm in amazing physical condition and my confidence has shot through the roof. I'd say it's gotten to the point where I can't live without my weekly doses of Krav Maga. I can without a doubt say that 1 hour here, is worth more than 1 hour at almost any other gym. This place teaches legitimate self-defense with no bullshit. This place will get you fit and in shape. Not to mention the staff and faculty are incredible. I've been to several other places to learn self-defense, and none have compared to the friendly and community like feeling I get from Krav Maga Xtreme. Every time I show up, I'm welcomed at the front desk with genuine sincerity. I can joke with the instructors even when the exercises get tough. They're there to teach you and make sure you have a good time. And did I mention that even the people taking the classes are awesome? Seriously, if you're struggling to learn something, they'll help. Everyone is there to learn. Oh, and to top all of this off. They offer a huge variety of classes, at least five off the top of my head. They've got weights and machines too, with lockers to store your stuff in as well. Lastly, when you're all done, if you so choose, you can even hop in the shower. This place is that awesome hole-in-the-wall that will amaze you with quality. Krav Maga Xtreme truly is extreme. read more

This is my first ever Yelp review. I'm writing it because I love this place. Among the challenges of running a self-defense gym is that prospective clients: 1. Come in all shapes and sizes 2. Are of all ages 3. Have drastically different goals Gaby and his team at KMX do an exceptional job of catering to individuals' uniquenesses. As a result I am never bored and almost always smiling. And I'm not the only one. The community at KMX is outstanding. From what I can tell everyone seems to find someone at KMX with similar goals. Those people make for fast friends. What's particularly interesting is that the diversity at KMX means that your "fast friend" is equally likely to be a retiree as to be a teenager. Prices are extremely reasonable considering the abundance of classes, quality of instruction, and access to weight equipment (and--oh yeah--it's in the Bay Area). In summary: What are you waiting for? Get off the computer and go do a class! read more

I have been training with the Owners and Instructors at KMX for several years now. When I started training in Krav Maga in Berkeley I weighed 355 pounds and could not jog much less run or fight/train for any length of time without being winded. Having been very fit in my late teens it was difficult to acknowledge my new limitations and work to over come them. The entire time the folks working at KMX provided a supportive and solid place to workout, grow, train, and get in shape. In the friendly "No Ego" zone of this Berkeley Krav Maga studio I was constantly encouraged and never put down. A few years later I am 175 pounds and pretty damn fit. I have watched many students get fit, get confident, and become very capable of defending themselves along side me. I would wholeheartedly recommend this studio to anyone looking for practical self defense, fitness, and self improvement.
