Sunlight streaming in the windows, a riverfront view enjoyed from the outdoor deck, the smell of raisins and cinnamon as baked goods are made in-house; the Kranhaus is perhaps the best Café in Berlin. The setting is decidedly Instagrammable with neon signs, reclaimed wood furniture, and wildflower centerpieces. Service is always quick and very kind. Best of all, though, is the free and unlimited Wifi that makes this cafe a great place to sit and get some work done, especially with other like-minded students from HTW just up the river. If you're not trying to concentrate on your laptop, the Kranhaus is also a great spot to relax with a snack and their chilled out/classy-feeling Jazz playlist. Best of all, it's located in the base of a crane that used to unload cargo for the factories along Wilhelminenhofstraße, so you get an interesting mix of history in the space. The downsides are that the furniture is a bit eclectic and can sometimes be uncomfortable, especially to sit at with a laptop, and sometimes it is difficult to locate a outlet to charge up. Just like most of the recent reviews: If you care about a minimum of good service then avoid completely, especially if you want to have an event there!!! After cashing in a couple of thousands they completely disappeared for months not answering phone calls or emails, driving us crazy not knowing if it was a fraud. We had to literally drive out there to make sure they still exist! During the event itself they didn't apply half of the stuff we agreed on (e.g. no pork meat, beef instead, boiled eggs for the kids), nothing arrived at the time we agreed on (scrambled eggs came one hour after everyone finished breakfast), the place was dirty, we had to clean up and carry away the plates, the 2 waitresses (we had payed for 4!!!) looked completely overwhelmed and many guests commented on their attitude and shabby and grumpy appearance. Asking for a discount for the horrible and incomplete service, the manager/waitress gave us the ugliest face ever, claiming "you already knew it's not a 5 stars restaurant, our place is shabby chique bla bla bla" - I live in Kreuzberg and I know what shabby chique means, and it's definitely not the horrible service that is nearly fraud, and definitely not for the price you ask for! what a shame for such a nice location, I hope that the management and service change very soon, or else this place is going down. read more
